I called Explorer this afternoon and their quote for National Interstate was $4200, which is $1800 less than the quote from Miller for the same National Interstate. I forwarded to my local agent who pointed out that Explorer quoted 30 days or less per year. While there is the possibility of going for longer (we did this year) I don’t see how they could ever prove that.

I have emailed Laura at Explorer tonight to see if she can find for me what ACV would be if I sustained a total loss today. We will see…..

Insurance may be a racket, but at least its inconsistency is consistent.

For the same coverage from the same insurer you have a difference of $1800. That is the same experience Tom and I had only in his case Explorer was less expensive, and in my case it was Miller.

Right now I am working on peace in the Middle East, but as soon as I solve that problem I will tackle the more difficult problem of making sense out of insurance.

Maybe this is the reason Tom buys a different coach every couple of years, so he doesn’t need to deal with getting an apprasial for the AV.

Karl, you just need to go get another coach, you’ve had yours way too long 🙂

FWIW, Laura at Explorer was unwilling/unable to look into ACV for my coach. Despite what others say about these brokers I think they are all the same, as are the insurance companies. The only thing they want to do is cash your check.

I have had some conversations with Mark Koch of Automotive Appraisal Services of Yorba Linda, CA. Recently he sent to me sample forms he asks people who seek an appraisal to fill out.

I have gone through the forms to see how they might apply to our coaches, and while there are some items that are obviously listed for other types of motorhomes or RVs it is clear that by providing the information requested he will have a very clear understanding of the coach and an ability to provide an accurate appraisal.

It is real easy to get comfortable with the thought of an appraisal when you know how much detail is taken into consideration. I realized the form is a benefit to the coach owner as well. It has enough detail that when it is time to sell the coach, it can be used to get an appraisal, but also as a document helpfutl to a potential buyer who will have a detailed list of the items that go into defining the value of a coach.
