Overnight stop around Savannah, GA
Hello, looking for suggestions for on overnight stop around Savannah, GA off I95(easy off/on) on our way to Florida/Naples.
Plans have changed from going down I75…now have to attend a weeding in Norwich, NY same time frame we planned to travel down…
Plan is to leave Norwich early morning and drive for about 13/14 hrs before stopping for the night.
I checked PC map, couple suggestions there, checked the respective campground websites, still looking for suggestions if any.
Appreciate PC Group input!

Wow. A 13/14 hour trek before stopping for the day. That surely covers some mileage.
Tammie will not drive our coach, and had an extreme interest in not learning to drive it either.
Do you tag team drive when you cover those miles?

I wasn’t going to say this again since many are probably getting tired of it. Here’s my go to Savannah stop when passing through.

Savannah, GA 31419-9787That’s a pretty long drive and I hope you’re taking stretch breaks. If Savanah is too far to drive in one day, there are Cracker Barrels all along I-95. Use their Trip Planner, and you can see locations along your entire trip. Cracker Barrel Trip Planner

Ron, no team / tag drive – I start driving about 5am with full tank of fuel, use performance drive in the hills and economy where terrain / road permits, speed limit – 70mph/adapt, couple light sandwiches, dark chocolate and water. As long as wife does not complain of being “tired”… my max driving time is about 15/16 hrs. I thought I keep it shorter this time, plan was to get to Prevost / JAX, but with the holiday on Monday(Oct 14th), I am sure will get some traffic around DC.
Of course, this is the plan, trying to work the plan, but will adjust accordingly if not safe due to traffic / getting tired prematurely.
Jimmy, thanks for your advice, actually I found a new RV Campground on Exit 94, on 204, going West 1/2 mile, Creekfire – Motorcoach Ranch with pull thru sites. Cracker barrel is just East on 204. I downloaded the CB app, also found RV Parky app really handy.

The Pilot just before the Florida line has a large easy to navigate parking lot. Plenty of room for the bus and the toad. We stop there often for an overnight.

Looking for suggestions on travelling thru NY from Cleveland to Norwich, NY(south of Syracuse, by Binghamton), I96 vs I86 road condition, faster / easier drive. Not looking for a scenic drive this time…
Initial map search took me thru I90E, then I start looking at I86 as an alternative. I used both in the past when traveling east, just can remember road conditions.
Other travel sites suggests that:
– I86 is “rougher” than I90, stay on left lane if possible, no tolls / scenic drive.
– I 90 lots of high price tolls ,”boring” to drive, couple accidents here and there…but faster and better road conditions for the coach.
I appreciate any suggestions / inputs!

They just started repaving construction (Finally!) on 5 mile stretch of road through Indian Reservation by Irving, NY between the PA line and Buffalo. The stretch is in very bad shape…slow down with or without construction.
I’ll leave it at that so Jon doesn’t get riled up again over NY politics.
There is cheap fuel at the Irving exit…turn right. It’s on the Indian Rez and no taxes. 3 Truck Stop to choose from. Similar to the new Fuel Card prices at Loves.

Jimmy and Dorel: Consider putting those locations on the PC Forum map as an overnight location. For many of us, that’s the first place we look for a place to stay. Easy to add locations.

Dick: Except for my end destination, the first place I always look for is a Cracker Barrel along my route. The Cracker Barrel Destination Map Planner on their PC website (not on phone app yet) or whatever they call it is perfect if you’re open to running your generator as much as you want and a hearty breakfast.

I agree with Jimmy, and want to add as a general rule regarding overnight stops. Quit driving early and you almost always get your choice of good parking spots. The longer you drive the harder it becomes to find decent safe stopping places.

The Thruway suuucccks period. Every year we’re up there heading back to the old homestead and I have repeatedly asked the toll booths if they would pay me to drive on that pile of crap. Hey it’s NY, so you know the answer I got.

I would run I-90 to I-86 to I-81 the up route 12 to Norwich. I-86 is very doable and I wouldn’t hesitate to run it in the western half of NY. We were just on the west end of the Thruway and everything that was said about it isn’t even enough to explain my feelings about it. I did, however, read somewhere that they were now working on that section. Awful.

Leaving from Norwich towards Florida, plan is 12 / 81 / 270 / 95 / 75.
I checked, no low bridges that I can find on this route in NY.

Doral, I’m an I-95 traveler since I live in Eastern NY but since you’re already going to be on I-81 I would seriously consider staying on I-81 to I-77 south to I-26 East to I-95. I might be a few extra miles but you’d avoid the DC and Richmond bound traffic completely. Might be something to try. Maybe we’ll see you @ Pelican this winter..-Ron

Ron, thank you, sounds good, trying to stay on main highways, not sure of the 81 / 77 road condition, adds approx 40 min to the drive to CreekFire Resort, it’s OK if we avoid delays around DC / Richmond.
Should be by DC around 11:00AM on Sunday, not sure of the traffic conditions, will check.
For sure…stop by when you are at PL
Dick, once I reach / experience the stops, I will add them to the PC map with comments.

So, I am calling you totally nuts for saying you drive for 12-14 hours before you stop for the night!
You are a menace on the road and you are endangering lives!
If you were a professional truck driver, I could see but not condone driving for that many hours and they are not allowed to, anyways.
You are not a professional CDL driver and driving a +/- 54,000 lbs machine can turn you into a deadly missile really easy and very fast!
Crina should kick your ass really hard and demand that you stop driving after 6-8 hours, max.
In that way, you would also be able to enjoy the scenery and not get cramps holding on to the steering wheel and trying to keep your eyes open.
I am surprised to note that nobody else has the guts to tell you this!
Anyway, I am hoping that you will arrive at PL safe and sound!
