Over the road blower quit
Anybody know what sends power to the fan(s) that blow air out the vents beneath the windows?
Solenoid, breaker, fuse?
OTR messed with me again couple weeks ago. But never had to deal with this one.
Dash fans that are throttled by the dash reostat work normal and air there is cool.

Dan & Barb, in your curbside OTR condenser compartment in the electrical box for the OTR stuff, there will be two 24v continuous duty silver metal solenoids in there. On the bottom of the box are 2 red re-settable CBs. The CB and solenoid on the left are for the evaporator fan which is what blows air across the evaporator and thru the main cabin vents. My guess is its the solenoid. They have a high failure rate. Always carry spares. I just recently installed a Cole Hersee brand, # 24063, rated at 85 amps continuous from amazon, $22, for my condenser fan because of the same problem your having.

I have to agree with Don, but a service item sometimes overlooked is the brush set in the fan motor. You would have to look it up in the service manual for your specific coach but there is a spec on brush length and if the fan motor brushes are at or below that dimension they should be replaced. Even if the problem is elsewhere (easily determined with jumpers) the brushes should be periodically inspected.

By the time I got to read you guyses post my intuition took me on the exact path you described. I too carry those spare solenoids. Before Don, I didn’t know which one ran evaporator fans so I swapped both new. All good now. Thanks for watching out for me.

Of the two solenoids I took out, one of them had guts that rattled and the other did not. Is the rattley one the bad one?

Replaced both 24v coils but fan motor still does not run. Brushes are like new over an inch long. Anyone have any ideas where to look next. The blow worked fine last year, first time turning it on this year evaporator motor did not work.
Does the evaporator motor turn on right away or only when needed?

Low freon will negate blowers running. If the yellow warning light on the dash turns on a couple minutes after switching on the air conditioner, low freon is first guess.

My 1991 xl will not kick in if low on freon.

What type of Freon do you use and is it the kind in the spray can at auto stores? My 1996 Liberty says R-32 i think. but it would be nice to carry some cans with me just in case the freon gets low out in the boonies,

R-32???????
Maybe R-12 on an older OTR, or 134 on a newer system.

What Jon said and you’re gonna need more than a can. Buy the R134 at Sam’s in the 30 pound jugs. Heck I have been nitrogen checking mine the last couple days. Still ain’t found a miniscule leak as it leaks down about 10 to 20 pounds a day after charging to 150psi. will vacumm tomorrow and charge. When I had it changed over to R134 years ago took the best part of a full bottle. About 25 or 26 pounds. That’s a lot of 1 pound cans.

Just put in 2 – 1pound cans and light went out blower’s are working and compressor is kicking in. Air comes out cool but not cold. Like you guys said {lol} will need more than two cans. Back to Menards tomorrow and will start looking for sales. Sam’s Club in by list. Thanks to all very helpful!

If 2 kicked the clutch you’re not far off. Napa has the R 134a for 165 bucks a 30 pounder here. Working on mine after having a leaking seal put in. Gonna vacuum it down tomorrow and juice it up.

The manual says to start engine when adding small amounts but does not say to start the air. Should the compressor be ON or OFF?
How much liquid should be in the bottom site glass?

Yes compressor on to top it off. Red ball in bottom site glass should float to the middle of the glass when full. System holds 24 pounds of r134a.
