I have not ben billed yet, but I am sure Jeff will be fair and it is a lot better than being stuck at a Rest Stop getting it fixed. And keep in mind, I have a 40 foot coach and there is very little room in my engine compartment. It could be much easier to access your starter than it was mine.

How many miles did you get out of the first starter?

It was the original starter that came with the bus when I picked it up new in December 1998. I have close to 220,000 miles on the bus and the starter.

This is a great post to show a owner who is on top of it and has owned the coach from new and had no trouble with the starter but replaced it and it was going bad . Getting towed from a rest area or where ever or having somebody come and fix it that you don’t trust will far out way the cost of having it done at Jeff’s shop !!!!!! I have seen them go bad at 90,000 miles to 120,000 up to 200,00 miles and look the same way this one did…

Is this an issue with the S60 or will the 8V’s do the same?

Most of my experience has bin with S60 , Jon would know more about the 8Vs

The only starter I ever had an issue with was on an International semi I bought to play with. I took it off and was going to replace it, but found it was just the solenoid. $60 later I had it back on and no more problems.
I never had one even hesitate on a bus so I don’t know anything about them for our coaches. BTW, I used my 12 point special sockets for the star type bolts. And yes the starter is heavy.

You are right Jon you can use the 12 point sockets on the bottom two , but the wrench I showed is the best for the upper bolt , it is a spline drive

I just arrived back home amd I can give you an answer. The new Mitsubitshi starter cost $480 plus labor, which in my case was one day.
