Not sure if your vintage is the same as mine but, my pump does not run when the auto fill is on.

Make sure when you press the button to auto fill…..hold it in for a few seconds to insure the valve stays open. On two of my previous coaches, I would turn auto fill on, walk away, and come back to find the valve did not stay open. I would then have to press it again to continue.

As stated above, Vantare’s have a water filter that filters the incoming water from the supply hose before it goes anywhere in the coach. If it needs changing, or restricted, that would cause your problem.

If you fill from the gravity feed, that does not pass through the filter, which is another way to fill the water tank quicker.

I cannot figure whay a water pump would come on when the tankj is filling. Something ain’t right.

And why a water pump inhibits filling is even more puzzling. A pump draws water from the tank, yes?? And filling the tank dumps water in from a source that has nothing to do with a pump, yes??? Maybe the experts can expain what I am missing.

And unrelated to this is just an observation. Tom has had every coach known to man, some conversions twice, but he has never had a Vantare. Hmmmm.

I bet Tom will definitely consider a Vantare, IF he ever decides to go with slides!

I have owned 3 Vantare’s in the last 4 years, all H’s, and all 3 double slides, and all with Prevost OTR air, which is mandatory for me.

The one I have now should be my last bus………even though my wife calls BS on that.

turned the pump off while on tank fill and certainly did speed up fill but I can’t figure why the pump would be turned on when tank fill is pressed and it does look like it is a factory wiring job, thanks again for the help everyone.

Just thinking outloud…does your coach have a valve which allows your coach to run off of city water? Many converters had a valve that would allow you to either use water in the coach via the tanks/pump or directly from the water hose connection. Sounds to me as if your valve is switched to city water. This would allow the pressurized side of the coach plumbing to lose pressure when your auto-fill solenoid opens, thus your pump turning on. This would also explain why your coach fills faster with the pump off. The line feeding the fresh water tank is filling the coach with 100% city water vs. a mix of city water and your pump water.

I would check behind the plumbing bay panel on both the driver and passenger side and look for any valves related to “city water” or “bypass.”

One way to test this theory is to connect the coach to city water, turn off your pump, and see if you still have water pressure in the coach.

That was my theory as well, when your filling the tank with city water, the pump senses a pressure drop and turns on. I had a bus do the same things, don’t remember which one.

I don’t get it. If the pump has no voltage, how does a pressure drop make it turn on? Could it be that the pump impeller is be spun by the flow of water during a tank fill? I have had the pump run during tank fill, but only when it was switched on.

Dan, it wouldn’t turn on if the pump has no voltage. That’s why when Dick turns off the power to the pump his tank fills faster. It’s 100% city water going into his tanks, not a mixture of city water and pump water from his fresh tank water.

I discovered this issue from the reverse way,I filled the tank from city water

and then turned on my pump and it would not build pressure,so after 30 minutes

of thinking it lost prime, I could hear the water pumping into the tank (why no water pressure)

I had forgot to shut off the fresh water fill solenoid,so just bypassed to tank. I guess ive never

filled it with the pump on.

I cannot envision what everyone is talking about.

On my coach, and maybe not other coaches I have a water fill valve that when open sends water into the water tank. It has no influence on my water pump, not does my water pump have any influence on tank filling.

My water pump draws water from the tank and sends it into the house water system. When the house water system is at XX PSI, the pump shuts off. Regardless of house system pressure the water tank is getting filled.

If I shut the tank fill valve yet leave the water line to the city water supply connected to the coach the water pressure from city water now is diverted to the house system and if the water flow rate is sufficient, and the city water pressure is adequate the city water supplies my house. If it is not adequate my pump compensates because it has greater flow and can deliver system pressure.

Jon, here’s a (very crude) diagram of how a coach could be plumbed which would allow the scenrario I was talking about happen. With the city water/bypass valve closed the coach would operate like most coaches by supplying the coach via the pump only. With it open it allows the coach to not use the pump and the city water provides the pressure for the coach. If the auto fill is activated, with the city water/bypass valve open, it would result in a drop in coach water pressure and engage the pump. You would then be filling your tank with a mixture of pump water and city water resulting in longer fill times.

But without seeing the coach this is all hypothetical as to why the coach pump runs with the auto-fill engaged.

Eliminate the city water by pass valve and replace it with a check valve. Problem solved.

I believe the fresh fill solenoid is there if you decide to fill the tank

with hydrant water witch goes through the regulator.Or to fill it unregulated, like at

your home. Two seperate water hook up.Is how mine is plumbed.

I agree Jon. But was trying to find an explanation as to why/how Dick’s pump runs with auto-fill engaged.
