I’m not an electrician or electrical engineer. But I read all of Jon’s posts religiously.

    That’s an interesting solution.

But … I don’t see any UL Marine, RVIA, CSA, ABYC, or U.S. Coast Guard Standards certification.

Just Intertek/ETL certification which appears to be an organization in England.

That “fourth contact” around the ring is the ground. Does much current flow through the ground? Is its apparent modest size sufficient?

Did you figure out “why” you had a meltdown?

At this point, I’m sticking with the tried and true traditional RV/Marine connections … especially from quality manufacturers like Marinco.

I looked at the SmartPlug last evening. I was curious about the certifications so I am glad was cleared up.

Dick , yes certification is important same as manufacturers recommendations. Unless of course you disagree with them. Yes the 4th is a ground, but grounds can be pretty important , they are there for a reason.

My plug melted slightly due to improper power management practices , was not a meltdown. 3 CA’s at once set to max. Not a good practice. Soft start Capacitors in the future. Still on the fence with the smart plug. Have a new old style replacement in hand. Probably will just stick with the old faithful cord reel that has a new plug…
