The 4 wheel drive 2012 F-150 is diffinately towable, all 4 down. Look on page 283 of the 3rd printing of the manual. The FMCA chart is very good and typically very accurate. Before making your final decision it is always best to consult the actual manual. FWIW, some manufactures are saying their vehicles are not flat toawable when they really are. They do this to limit liability when someone doesn’t follow the instructions.

Can anyone post the procedure for the 2012 or 2013 model year F-150 4×4? It may help someone who wants to tow one….

The way my friend said on his 2012 f150 is to turn the 4×4 knob to the right 5 times with in 7 seconds place the transmison in park and go, he did say it is in the owers manuel because he had to show it toyhe dealer, because they had a hard time believing it

That is strange as my BIL has a 2012 and his doesn’t work when we tried that, and he told me it was not in his manual. I will have to ask him again when I talk to him next time..

Turn key to on, not start. Place transmission in neutral, use the selector knob to go from 2HI all the way to 4LO and back 5 times quickly, then the display says shifting and then tow mode enabled if I recall. Then turn key one notch back and leave transmission in neutral.
After about 10 seconds or so, the dash shuts down and you can lock it up and go. They key remains in all the time you are towing.

Same way he does his but he puts his in park , I do to to stop the trany from turning without oil on it, free wheeling

I’m thinking of stopping at Mountain Falls Motorcoach Resort after mid Sept. working my way to Liberty Coach in Stuart Florida. My brother and his wife will be following me in their coach as we will spend some time in Asheville beforehand and they will follow me to Lake Toxaway.
So, my first question is, have any of you taken the route from Asheville to Mountain Falls in Lake Toxaway (I-40 to the I-26 to the cutoff of hwy 280 which turns in hwy 64? I know it is mentioned that the road is curvy, etc. How are the tree’s, any low ones to be concerned about if any of you have been on it recently?
My second question is, how is hwy 64 heading southwest after I leave Lake Toxaway where I would cutoff to hwy 281 connecting to I-85 south? Low trees? Problems? Bad roads?
Any input would be appreciated.

Mark, been there a couple of times…2wks ago in fact. Last 7mi curvy…just watch your toad in the mirror (yours is shorter) no tree problem. Geo.

we are here now and came up on road you are questioning. 281/130 south is good two lane road. A little curvy in places but not a problem even with toad. Try highway 11 to I-85 south, nice drive.

I have a 2007 Ford F150 4×4 and I flat tow. In order to do this, I had to install a DS Disconect. I put the truck in N a turn the ignition off.

I always put mine in park to stop the transmission from free wheeling without oil.

I own 3 lots in Mtn Falls. NC Highway dept is doing a major improvement of 64 from Brevard to Cashiers. It will be great when done. If you like the place it may be a good time to buy before the road work is done,.

Ditto on the roads going to Toxaway, Beautiful once there, but a little tough getting there from the south anyway, got down to 2nd gear going up a few of those mountains.
As far as flat towing F150’s, I had a 13 model 4X4 and towed it fine, I have a 2015 now, 4×4 and it has Push button start instead of a key, but works just like Mark mentioned above.
With push button start, you have to leave the fob in the truck, also, if you lock the doors with the keypad on the door, the alarm will go off once you start moving. So, manual lock the doors, and then you can open with the key pad once your there.
