We got here yesterday. Very nice park, sites are level, power and water good. Only drawback so far is the road getting here. Hwy. 64 from the east is the only good way, and the last 7 miles or so is VERY curvey and hilly! I had no trouble seeing that entire side of my F-150 as it trailed along behind us over that 7 miles. It is a narrow two lane road and has quite a bit of traffic on it. On some of the corners, you need to go over the center line to avoid dropping the drive axle and toad into the ditch. It is doable, and there are trucks on it all the time, but if you do decide to come here, make sure you go slow and watch the corners.

The area is beautiful so it is worth a trip. It is about a 90 minute drive from I-40 to the park.

    Mark,

So you’re back in the south… I just saw you a few days ago, we were having fun at Nashville, right?

We are at Two Rivers now. Left Mountain Falls this AM. Met Jon & Di over on I-40 on their way east. I forgot to take any pics while we were at Mountain Falls. They are way behind on the clubhouse and second phase of the buildout, but what is done is very nice. VERY quiet and peaceful.

Tom: Yep, we came right back down one week after I saw you guys at Prevost. I have COLD air again blowing out of the dash vents! We are staying here at Two Rivers until Friday, then heading back to Camp Prevost. Staying there Friday night and meeting my niece and her husband for dinner then heading back home Saturday.

Got a big wave from Jon as he was heading east this AM. He was lucky he left when he did as there was about a 7 mile backup on eastbound I-40 about 5 minutes after we met him. Both lanes at a stop for the entire 7 miles. I am not sure why, but it was a cluster for sure.

Al: it is not snowing in Duluth today. It actually should be about 60 degrees ABOVE zero.

Mark and I each waved at one another as we passed.

But we weren’t so lucky. We sat for 2 hours about 2 miles short of a fatal car / tricycle accident. From what we could tell on the CB the car came in contact with the motorcycle which was pulling a small camper behind it. Apparently the 2 occupants of the motorcycle were thrown from it and one lay dying in the middle of the highway. The second was badly injured. The first succumbed at the scene and the second was airlifted by helicopter.

When we finally were able to move all that remained at the scene was a blue trike and a crumpled up motorcycle sized pop top camper.

I saw the smashed up motorcycle trailer in the ditch and the trike sitting on the side of the road. There was some sort of emergency vehicle sitting behind them, but I saw nobody outside. Then the road was clear for quite awhile until the big backup. We couldn’t figure out what was going on with the big gap between the accident scene and where the rest of the traffic was. I thought Jon was ahead of the mess. Guess not. Too bad about the people on the trike.

According to the newspapers from the area the bikes passenger was the one killed, the driver flown to Mission Hospital which I assume was in Asheville. It did not mention if the driver of the car was cited.

With all the curves on that stretch of I-40 and every one including trucks in a big hurry it is not surprising things like this happen. Very sad.

    Mark,

in you post you mentioned your towing a F150 are you towing flat and if so how?

    I purchased a GMC 4X4 because I didn’t think I could tow a Ford.

Greg 2012 & newer ford 4×4 is flat towable, years before that had to have the transfer case stick in in the floor to be flat towed. ’11 & older need the manuel transfer case

Ford finally woke up and made the 2014 model year F-150 4×4 flat towable. There is a procedure to get the transfer case into neutral now and it works well. Be aware you need to leave the transmission in neutral as well, and that means you have to leave a key in the ignition. I had a cheap copy made that won’t start it, but works for towing. I think the key is also to keep the steering wheel unlocked.

My Tahoe was slightly easier to deal with, and you did not have to leave a key in it, but the F-150 isn’t too bad.

The dealers don’t seem to know about this feature, and I almost didn’t buy it because they told me it couldn’t be done, but I had read that it could be and asked to see an owners manual for 2014 and it is in there in great detail. I of course had to rub it in their faces, and they just mumbled something and walked away.

It would not surprise me that Ford, Chevy/GM, Toyota and even Chrysler/Dodge got with the pickup truck towable program as a result of the NASCAR drivers needing to flat tow a pickup truck behind their Prevosts (and two or three Newells) with a golf cart in the box. That seems to be the choice of all the race car drivers in the motorcoach lot.

Towing a pickup makes a lot of sense, and I am slowly progressing towards having my Ram 2500 towable. I have the base plate made and mounted, wiring and air lines for the Brakemaster are the next projects.

My concern is the thing weighs 7600 pounds. I thought 6700 pounds for the Hummer was a lot although the coach handles them OK. When the Ford is done it will weigh 3000 pounds so it will be like nothing is back there.

I am not sure this is correct. My BIL has a 2012 and it won’t go into neutral. We tried a 2013 at the dealer I bought from and it wouldn’t either. Unless there is a different procedure to do it in those model years I am unaware of, I don’t think they will work.

I found out about it in the FMCA towing guide first, and then found the instructions in the 2014 F-150 owners manual, where they explained it quite well. It is in the table of contents too, so easy to find. Previous years towing guide have not indicated that the F-150 was flat towable.

If there is a way to tow the 2012 and 2013 flat, please post the details here so we will all know.
