I had 2 tanks on my Marathon and I really did not think that one large one would make a difference but I will be at several events each year where I can get water but do not have sewer and the one tank for the black water with the gray water by-pass open will work for 10 days.

I’m not sure I quite understand what you are saying. You have one tank in your Liberty Coach but you can bypass with the grey water? My assumption was that if you have one tank, ‘everything’ goes in the black and grey tank and it is all flushed at one time. Is that correct?

I didn’t see that thread in the plumbing section. Interesting having one tank and also having the option of sending the grey water out while connected to services. But, with such a large single tank, it would last us quite a while.

I have no clue how others such as Millennium or Marathon plumb their holding tank system, but I have found the Liberty set up to be very versatile. The size of the holding tank closely matches the water tank capacity so if I dump every time I take on water I am unlikely to overflow the holding tank. Because of that I never use municipal water pressure and always rely on the pump.

If we have a situation as Jack describes in which we will not have access to a dump station but we will have water available, we open the gray water bypass so everything except the toilet drops onto the ground, greatly increasing our ability to last a long time before dumping. But if there is any kind of sewer available we also have the macerator pump so we can drain the holding tank and I carry a long length of garden hose for that purpose. If I can reach a sewer cleanout, a sink, a toilet, etc. the macerator can be used to pump the waste to the drain. Just have to remember to not use that hose for filling the water tank.

Jon, obviously one needs to be aware of limitations on dumping grey water to the ground. Very few places will allow that and I’m sure some locations actually have regulations that make it illegal.

We do a lot of dog shows and that puts us frequently in fairgrounds and ag center facilities. Virtually all prohibit dumping grey water.

At a few places I use a Radiator hose connected to the gray water bypass pipe then a section of 1 1/4 inch PVC and I run to a ditch or away from the bus so that I do not have a big puddle under the bus after my wife gets out of the shower.

Les, I agree and we rarely get an opportunity to open our gray water valve. But there have been venues where dumping gray water is allowed and encouraged.
