At Foley we collected a hand full of personal ‘Bus’ cards….owners had a picture of their bus along with
names, address, email, telephone,etc.We’re in the process of doing the same so to be ready for the next rally!!!!

I missed the bus cards at Foley but like the idea.
I support the idea of a directory for those that attend rallies or a more broad based approach. I also understand those that do not want to participate.

For you folks that think your identity is safe, just google yourself using your correct name or nick name. You might get a big surprise. If you dig a little, you can find just about anyone you want.
Not sure I understand why a picture, phone number, home state or email address on a private forum would compromise your security concerns. You already have some of that right here in front of 1900 people, 1850 you probably don’t know.
Not pushing the directory, just not clear on some of the reasons against due to identity concerns.

My concern is making some information available that could become public.
I used to leave the phone in the bus on even when we were not driving. Not any more because of all the telemarketers. Same thing with my FAX. It has a dedicated line but I am sick of getting offers of $99 vacations, RV resorts and cheap health care. Just after the previous directory was sold to a marketer my email box was always getting offers from RV resorts.
Bottom line, I give out my business cards to people who are important to me, I don’t want the information regarding my phone numbers or email address on a list that is going to end up in the public domain and easily used for solicitations or other purposes.
If someone has the time to google every name on a forum to try to secure email addresses or phone numbers or street addresses I cannot do anything about that, just like I cannot do anything about govenment entities listing certain information on property tax rolls. But I think this goes further than just trying to eliminate a source of irritation. I also think it might be a safety issue because of how Prevost owners are perceived. I don’t want to be in a directory.

I just typed Jon Wehrenberg Knoxville TN into Google……returned 2840 results, many with address and phone number.

I think a member directory would be great. People should remember that the only Information available would be what you put on there. It’s not like your banking info would magically appear. If you don’t want any contact beyond the forum, just don’t put any info on it. I’ve ran a very successful and busy bus forum for over seven years with absolutely Zero problems with spam or privacy issues. It doesn’t have to be rocket science. And as shown from what people are already saying, there is probably lots more info about you already available from many online sources. Putting a name, email, and possibly phone number on a a ember directory of a small website would be the least of your worries.
iAlso, I never asked to join the private forum, because I didn’t know what it was or who was invited.

More than phone and probably email address, I would find year, Prevost model, converter, converter coach model of interest.
While the guys and gals with coaches from the late 80’s and those with coaches built in the last two or three years are probably really nice, helpful people, I would really like to quickly find those members with an 1998, 1999, or 2000 Liberty XLV (preferably 24 volt coach) when I have a serious problem. I also want those folks to be able to find me quickly too.
Not that I can’t get help from anyone on the Forum regardless of what kind of coach they have, I can and already have. For a member to be able to focus in on owners of similar coaches (through a directory) I think would be of real value to us versus having to plow through all posts to find one.
Additionally I would hate to drive over to Wal-Mart in Saukville (WI) and find a PC member sitting crosswise in the parking lot with two service trucks sitting next to it and find out its a new owner who doesn’t know what to do and they spent the night in a cold coach without power. In an emergency I don’t mind late evening or early morning phone calls.
This also includes anyone looking to buy a coach.
Like the previous poster said, let the membership put as little or as much information in the directory as they want … just give us the fields to fill. Two more fields … year bought current coach, first year in a Prevost.

And who exactly is going to pull this information together and control its distribution?
Last time I checked we had more than 36,000 posts. The information described is likely available to anyone that chooses to harvest that information after logging in.
In our member registry I can tell you all that we do not list the coach or information about the coach. We do have email addresses but we do not know if the names of members are real names. I am not trying to be evasive, but some Prevost owners or enthusiasts do not want themselves known.

I clearly understand how knowing from a directory all owners of similar coaches can be a huge benefit, but if it is important to you you can get that information right now based on posts from people with a similar coach. If folks do not list their coach in the signature line they either don’t have one, or don’t want others to know what they have.
But thinking pessimistically if someone created a directory that was sortable, such as by state, by converter, by model year, etc. and it fell into the hands of someone who could use it for business purposes your every meal would be ruined by telemarketers who will start out by saying “I see you have a 1999 Liberty, and I just got in a 2005 Liberty that I know you would be interested in……….”

This seems to be pretty good forum software ya’ll are using. With that being the case, no one has to pull any information together and distribute it. It should be as simple as adding a few more fields to the profile that each member can add to (or not). Profiles would be set to be seen by members only. I’m sure you vet new potential members to make sure they are no spammers or scammers. It’s really not that hard or that big of a job since you already have the forum software setup. Add whatever fields you want, and people can add as much or as little as they want. That way, the Prevost owners who want to stay unknown can do it, but those who actually want to meet other people and potentially offer help to someone with a question about a specific coach can do that too. Like I said, in seven years we never had one security breach, and it really wasn’t that hard to do.

But the only way a spammer gets your phone thru a profile is “if you list it” which I think, for the most part, members on PC would not list their cell.
Agree with Dale that it’s simply adding a few fields on our current profile and making it accessable to other members or, include a check box that other members cannot see your profile.

I like Dale’s suggestion. I don’t expect Jon, Tom, or their Internet/Forum guru to gather the information. It would be up to use the member to populate the information about us and our coaches to the extent we want to share it. I look to Jon, Tom, or their Internet/Forum guru to provide us with the fields, an entry screen, a screen for view, and hopefully a way to search.
I realize that Jon and Tom have limited resources. They might consider a poll for members to respond to so they can gauge interest. If there are only four or five of us who would put our information out there, then its not worth their effort.
