LED coach Lights
Guys,
I am considering having marathon change over all my interior halogen lights to LED in the next couple of months…. Anyone here done it? Thoughts on the end result?

I did mine bought lite bulbs put them in I like them not much power to run them marathon wants a lot of money to change them out you my be able to do it your self if you want

I have changed over all the strip lights to LED and will replace others as the go out. Unless a deal comes thru. Maybe we could get a large group order with one of the companies thru PC. On a separate post list Name Type and quanity of each present it to the companies and see what happens.

I replaced all round ceiling lamp bulbs with disc style replacement LEDs. They were very inexpensive. Mine only have one dimming level. When buying you need to know what’s available. Check luminance, color temperature, if they are dimmable, and if they are polarized. Color and brilliance are the most critical factors.

If you want start a new thread to create a group of buyers. I think with the numbers on here now the number of interior lights to replace halogens could easily be in the thousands.
We’ll do what we can to make it easy to keep things organized.

some I used in my home built conversion. available in all shapes and light colors /shades.of white etc.

15 ft of the ribbon led =under $20…. the indivual round to replace halageon in G-4 base under $4 with 50,000hrs life. would suggest bright white for living area. Also avail in dimmable.. do your research.. Will help with a discussion as my whole coach is led. Bob

Bill, changing the bulbs is pretty easy, depending upon the fixtures you have. I’m changing mine right now. I have finshed the bedroom and bath and find the light output and color of the leds to be nearly identical to the halogens they replaced. The picture shows the halogen bulbs being removed on the left, and the replacement leds (front and back) on the right. I understand that on some fixtures the leds simply plug right in. On mine, the resistors on the back of the waffer are too thick to fit inside the fixture, so I have to yank out the metal reflector from the fixture. It’s not difficult, but does require cracking the plastic housing of the fixture, which means I can never go back to halogens unless I replace the fixtures. However, I’ll never go back. The leds are great.
Note that most folks seem to like the “warm white” leds. The ones I bought are pretty similar in color temp to the halogens. If you don’t specify warm white, the light is blueish and quite harsh to my eyes.
Also note that you need different leds if your ceiling lights are on mechanical type dimmers. I believe these work fine on electronic dimmers, but I don’t have that type so can’t say for sure

Panterra Coach did a remodel on the interior of my 2002 before I picked it up and converted the interior to LEDs. The color , light level and dimming are spot on not to mention the reduction in power used with a whole coach conversion. They have what I perceive as an advantage perhaps over others as the owner also has connection with an electrical firm and a storefront for fixtures. Long storey short, if Jon’s idea works out they may be a good contact to approach for PC members to purchase in bulk.

box stores are 5X the price of e-bay for same product. so shop around. A good discussion of light lumes and sunlight equiv etc is another needed topic. All kinds of base mods are available for led lights.

I replaced all my fluorescent tubes with LED units from MarineBeam and love them. Less heat/power and more light. Great innovative marine company.

Great idea doing an LED change over. I was under the impression that our electronic light controls required some electric up- grade or remodel so we retained the dim option.
Has the new LED replacements bulbs advanced eliminating that former problem ?

yeah that is what I am not sure about either… The pixs of what Byran had in his post look pretty close to what was in the email ad that Marathon sent out. They indicated that the socket remain the same but didn’t mention the dimming…. For what they estimated I have to believe that its more involved than just putting them in the sockets…. we have really noticed that in the Galley and salon if we have everything one it really puts out a significant amount of heat…. I will follow up with Marathon on the dimming and update.

On the back of led the location of pins is key to ficture fit. Also as cheap as they are(under $4) get a few and experiment. Watch and make sure you get dimmable. I had a few differant ones we tried in DKO bus until he found the ones he liked. Differant ones for differant areas. If it must have the M name on it go that way! For others if using E-bay I suggest a USA shipper as I had problems in shipping with China. Great to decide what you want to use. Side note:: I used to replace my landscape lights also.. sure last longer. Bob

We are also interested in replacing our Halogen for LED…..would gladly take part in a bulk order.
