In the more than 25 years we have owned a Prevost we have seen and heard just about every reaction possible.

Initially due to the relatively low number of coaches in private hands we were a novelty and people seemed to expect Garth Brooks to be driving it, or to step out of it at a rest area. We got a lot of smiles and thumbs up as we were passed. In campgrounds people would take their evening walks so they would pass the coach, and if we were out they had a lot of questions.

Unfortunately with the passing of driving skills among truckers we have noticed resentment slipping in. Drivers with CBs went from curious such as how many does it sleep, or how much does it cost, to being identified as rich bastards.

Today a Prevost is not uncommon. I won’t say they are everywhere, but with Prevost now the bus of choice for entertainers, and with the number of motor homes on the road the truckers tend to no longer have any curiousity. If we stay in high quality RV resorts we will not be alone. If we tend to stay at smaller, older RV parks we stand out and some people view us as stuck up until conversations start. The people that make nasty remarks about Prevost owners really do not understand who we are how we came about being able to acquire a Prevost, and fail to see that regardless of the typo of rig all RVers are having just as much fun.

I really believe if there is resentment towards us it is because our government and its politicians have done a real number on us by constantly repeating comments about the 1%ers, the rich paying their fair share, and other divisive remarks which paints people that drive expensive cars, or live in big houses, or who drive a Prevost as uncaring mean people.

With the number of other non-Prevost tag-axle coaches now appearing to be increasing in numbers, are the Prevost/successful person haters anti-them as well? Is the guy in his brand new King Aire getting the same grief, or is it just reserved for the stainless and ‘H’ guys I wonder?

On edit: as & when we are in possession of our bus, we will be the first ones to go and say hi to our neighbours. There is nothing worse than someone (Prevost owners or otherwise) that thinks they are better than anyone else.

Since there are some high cost conventional motor homes that seem designed to look like an H I wonder if most can even tell the difference.

Most people don’t even know what a Prevost is, and those that do including those who buy some of the look-alikes don’t think they can afford one. Hence the occasional attitude people have about Prevost owners.

I was introduced to Prevost by a plumber. He had a nice shiney 40 foot Marathon. I had worked around him for 35 years knew him as a hard worker and master of his trade. A couple of years ago he decided to let me in on his secret. The secret was, he owned a Prevost and very few knew. I fell in love. After dreaming of owning one, creeping the Prevost Commnity page for a year my dream came true. Now I am in the same boat, bus stays in the barn, and very few know I have it. And as long as I own a business and have employees it will stay that way.

This is nothing new for me, it is something I have had to live with many years when when it comes to cars, boats motorcycles, or anything else that is above and beyond what is needed to exist in life. I have been the subject of jealous conversation from customers and employees alike. I can’t own a Cadillac but I can own a $70,000.00 Suburban.

But it is what it is, and I will have to say,after the know your Prevost I have met a wonderful group of folks. None of which I felt were snobs. I felt right at home with all. So when it comes to what people think of us Prevost owners…. Who cares
