Hurricane

Jeff,
it was great to be staying at your place with a couple other hurricane refuges. Carole and I got home on Friday evening. It started raining around Asheville and did not stop. We did see the results of an overly enthusiastic plastic RV operator. He was obviously following too close and probably travelling too fast for conditions. He rear ended a Camry (best I could tell) which then was pushed forward into three other vehicles. Fortunately for us the wreck was in the westbound lanes, of course in the #1 lane, and traffic was already backed up for at least 3-4 miles if not more.
Anyway, we are safe and sound and the bus put away into its storage building. Our power failed around 10:00 AM today and remains out. Again, fortunately we have a standby generator that runs on natural gas. It does the whole house which is great. Now how am I typing this? Well our internet connection is down, as are a lot of trees, so I’m connected through my hot spot on my iPhone.
Josh did an outstanding job on repalcing the damaged panel and radio. You did a fabulous job diagonosing the generator. It now starts on the first attempt. Please give my thanks to all involved.

we just got an email from the manager of our RV resort on HHI. Extensive damage on the island. No power or water. Apparently it was a direct hit. Island is inaccessible. Several owners weathered the storm in their rvs they are ok but can’t get out of the resort as large trees fell blocking the entrance. Hope everyone is safe!

Bill, I can only imagine what it was like for the people who stayed in their RV’s.
I bet it was scary.

Our Governor has stated there have been 8 deaths and five people remain missing as of earlier this afternoon. There have been several dams and farm ponds breached by the rainfall amounts. Fayetteville, just east of Southern Pines, received 14″ in a 24 hour period and this was after flooding the week before. Trees are down, roads washed out, people attempting to drive through moving water and not evacuating as told have resulted in 1,000 water rescues. I imagine that number is climbing as I type this update.
Carole and I are fine so are the pups. Thanks for your prayers now and into the future. The Town of Princeville, evacuated and under water from Hurricane Floyd 10-12 years ago has been given a mandatory order to evacuate this afternoon. Princeville is in Edgecome County just east of I-95 and Rocky Mount.

On my way home to Florida I swung by Jeff’s to get a couple of things done. Two days before Matthew hit and Jeff was kind enough to let me sit it out at his place. So, I expect my next oil change to have a couple of days electricity added to it. 🙂 Thank you so very much Jeff. I enjoyed the time. See you again in April.

Helen and I have done the Hurricane stomp at Jeff’s for the past three years on our way home to Florida. Well worth the $19.95 oil change advertised on the billboard signs on the way to Jeff’s.

Hey Fred, You may be dyslexic, that’s $95.19 and it’s not for an oil change… That’s to clean your windshield!

Looking like the cone of uncertainty is moving around. Not sure if I was in the flaccid part of FL, I would take chance. With only 2 main roads out of the state, it can become a mess real quick.
Jeff’s is quiet today. Oh and my bus is out of the way of trying to pin point something as serious as a hurricane.
Granted I’ll be in the thick of everything once it’s done doing its thing, but vonore isn’t a bad place to hang out and wait for it.
Oh and I think I’ll need to add a couple zeros to even that $95 windshield cleaning when I leave here (thanks lifeline and zip dee:( ).

You all missed out on jeff’s hurricane evac party. He had a mobile hot tube brought it, has been grilling filet mignons every night and even had a fully stocked open bar, including mimosas at dawn!
I think I even overheard something about a 50% discount on all oil changes!
On top of that all that, there was a flyer tom posted on the front gate for buy one, get one free lifeline batteries for every one spending the week at East Tennessee Luxury RV Resort this week. Offer expired today 🙁
