We live in Titusville, so we came across to Bradenton. I hope anyone that stayed on the East Coast stays safe.

We are right across from the Sebastian Inlet and hunkered down for the night. Expect to lose power by midnight. As soon as we have cell phone or internet again, we will let everyone know how we are.

We are at TGO (The Great Outdoors) near Titusville. So far everything here is fine. Rain bands and some wind. The bad part of the storm will hit us in the early AM. Will post later when the worst of the storm has passed, as long as we have some internet connection.

I have to ask, why are you folks staying there when you have wheels to roll?

My sister and her husband live in Fort Lauderdale and went over to a hotel in Naples yesterday and will return Friday if all is well.

Later I wil detail how I screwed up and stayed here until it was to late to leave. But we have a good house, with storm shutters and a new roof. The storm track just drifted further east, so the eye may not come ashore. If the eye stays off shore we will be a lot better off. I have been thru quite a few hurricanes and a typhoon. We are well prepared for this one. All that said, you never know how things will work out.

I boarded up my home and loaded up the bus and headed west. Staying in Lake City, FL until it passes. If I lose my home that’s one thing, I can’t move it. But if I also lost the bus due to the storm I’d feel a little foolish considering you just turn the key. It’s a good feeling having a bus full of fuel and water and knowing you can get out of harm’s way.

To all our friends at PC we stayed at our home in TGO because our house is sold and need to clear out. Also our house is built with concrete exterior walls. We have been through wrose conditions. So far everything is fine lots of rain and windy.

I pray that everyone is OK as well , we have few more hours of this then we OK.

Checking in from Palm Beach County:

While the outer bands of Hurricane Matthew came through the area, it was not as dramatic of a storm as the media had predicted. In my area there’s a few fallen branches and flooding is limited to only a few places. There was no lost of power or utility services…only a few power surges and I’m glad I have a bunch of battery backups on various products around the house. The power was never off long enough for the standby generator to kick in and cable service was never interrupted.

I can only hope the folks in Central Florida and those located the future path of this storm are as lucky as those in my area.

We’re two hours east of Jeff’s in TN. Heading there on Sunday. We had rain all day from WV. Outer bands of storm. A biggie.

We kept power until about 6:30 AM this morning. Power is out now. No damage to house or bus. I don’t think the winds ever got over 100mph. Living in the bus now, waiting for power to come back on. Other then no power, we are doing fine.

Hurricane Matthew has past and all is well other than debris from the oak trees. The picture below shows our view from our front porch overlooking the Indian River this morning. In the foreground is our hedge covered with debris.

Texas Tech University planted a wind monitor in front of the dock. We were a little concerned that they knew something that we didn’t know… In the distance is a rain band so you cannot see the barrier island. The picture does not show that we are 18 feet above the water (considered a hill in Florida).

We feel very fortunate to not have any damage to our home, our dock, our industrial park, and most important, our coach. The coach was stored in a warehouse. And we never lost power.

Why did we stay? Several reasons and it was a personal decision to do so. We stayed for Jeanne and Francis in 2004 which were both a direct hit to Florida, a CAT2 and a CAT3 with the center of the eye 30 miles south of us. Our house was built in the late 50’s by a builder that believed in building the house to withstand hurricanes. Yes, we could have left, but then we would worry about what had happened to our home and business, and would have to wait until we made it back.

We hope that all that stayed in TGO are okay as we understand the area around Canaveral had over 100 mph wind gusts. This storm could have been much, much worse if it had made landfall south of us and had the eye travel up the state between I-95 and the coast.
