danielsternlighting.com I am doing a headlight conversion on my 98. I started a thread on it prob under home builders sec. Mine are in but have not road tested. The same size headlights are not available. I used a smaller shell and all and am Installing led strip around them–like new cars have. From available first impression huge upgrade. My first coach had the 4 rectangular sealed beam headlights with two having regular and high beam, and the remaining two for high beam use. When we replaced that coach with our second coach it had the Ford headlights and I was amazed at how poor the quality of night time lighting had become. Now with the current coach having the latest style headlights I think the regular lights are OK, but the high beams seem very good.

What we really need is to line up a couple of coaches with the different versions of available headlights and some how quantitatively evaluate each type. Then somehow see if the test can be duplicated with potential replacements.

When my first coach had the 4 sealed beam headlights and the Ford version was introduced Prevost owners were faling all over themselves “upgrading” so their coach looked like the newest versions (kind of like what H3 owners are doing now with front caps) but after the conversion to the Ford lights a great number of them realized they were actually a step back.

So the question is how do we get into the headlight issue with a side by side comparison and then post the results so owners know if the change is improved lighting, or just appearance?

In my royale I had ther ford lens and Xenon HD bulbs they where very bright then I put the rigid industries running lights and then it was like a football field on the highway. In the 2003 it has the regular bulbs and running lights / fog lights there is no comparison to the others, the 2003 liberty is not even close the lights are very poor, both coaches had ford lights about 60,000 miles with both sets a lot at night, I am about to change my liberty lights out and driving lights for better light, Just my two cents worth!!!

Could a comparison be done at the maintenance seminar or Oyster Fest ? I volunteer my dim ford lights, which seem only one step better than driving in the dark, for the line up. Will Peter’s last coach be at either event? I would love to see the Rigid Industry lights he installed in action.

no I don’t think it will be there but I think there will be a coach there with them at Jeff’s just about sure of that, I will be putting Ridgid industries lights in my liberty about 2500 each but well worth it to me and headlights change out

It looks like we have the same Ford headlights. Have you decided on a specific replacement? The Rigids must be incredible in the less populated areas but I wonder if they are too much here in north Texas.

There were some available in Argentina. they preformed better than the plastic usa ford ones. I would try larger wires to stock via relays. If your experience is the same as mine on the 98 you will find 12 volt or less delivered to the headlights with the engine running or less than 50% efficiency for the set up. Check it. I wrote a efficency study and to work best you need 12.7 Volt at socket. Will try to see if I can locate it and bring foward. Bob

checking voltage at socket. Stock bulbs. 10.80= 510 lumes 14= 1356 lumes 11.88 = 67% of bulb capacity. Mine stock read 10.80 engine off 11.88 engine high idle . loss is due to worn switches and undersized wiring=especially if you go zeon bulbs. I changed to relays and 12 ga wire to get the 14 V at socket running using stock switch to activate relays. Just some food for consideration.. Bob

Al go on there web page buddy you can buy them a lot of places but they have the best prices all my service trucks have them on. They will be good in Texas you can turn them off anytime and just use headlights
