There’s probably a few factors driving the slow start. My application is still sitting on my desk. I’m not hitting the road for a couple of weeks so I have time. Others may be doing the same.

I know it’s probably a regional thing, but I often find the truck stops to be way over priced. Yes, they are convenient and yes I use them, but I probably use local stations more often. Sure, if covering a lot of distance is my goal, then I’ll stop at the truck stops. Often when I arrive at a CG or overnight location I scope out the local stations with GasBuddy and drive by the least expensive ones on the way to dinner. Take for example the nearest truck stops near where I live. The Love’s at exit 358 in Ocala is selling Diesel now for $449 (ouch!). The Pilot/Flying J at the same exit has a price of $459. The BP just down the street is $3.899. Yet at exit 301, where there are no truck stops the fuel is $3.799. That’s ahuge difference. I see this all the time in Florida, but not in every state.

There’s also the credit card factor. Many of use use credit cards for everything. My card provides a 5% rebate on fuel purchases. I believe the “other” truck stop program allows me to use my credit card and pay 3 cents less than the cash price.

I’m sure there may be other factors and time may be a big one. Be patient, it’ll catch on.

Hello Prevost,

I see that there are questions regarding credit card vs. checking account transactions…The application and program requires that you provide both accounts. The credit card is used to charge the $250 annual fee and the bank account is to debit your fuel transactions on a daily basis.

I have had some questions myself regarding if members can use a credit card instead of their bank account. The reason why this program requires the use of an ACH Debit is because if credit cards are used for the fuel transactions, we would have to charge a credit card fee which normally they average about 3% of the charge. If this happened the discount would be lost and the members would not see a significant if any savings.

We are striving for Prevost Community Members to save as much as they can on their fuel transactions, as well as having a service that is easy to use and will make your trip that much more pleasureable.

I have the same situation Gil Does. The local stations are now running about $.15 cheaper than the truck stops. But no matter which way I approach or leave the house going to the cheap local one costs me 16 miles. At 6MPG it is almost 3 gallons so at todays prices I need to save enough to compensate for the almost $11 in fuel I burn.

At $.15 cent savings I need to pump at least 73 gallons. But even if I pump 125 gallons and save the $7.80 I can’t use my credit card because at those stations they let you pump about $85 to $100 dollars worth and the pump shuts off. So instead you have to walk in and wait for everyone buying cigarettes, lottery tickets or milk, leave a pile of cash and then try to pump all that fuel through a nozzle the size of a #2 pencil.

Truck stops equal stop, swipe, pump, go. and they are in the path of my travels and the pump will actually fill my tank in a few minutes.

I rarely find non truck stop locations that I can get in and out of with little problem, plus all of the hassle Jon mentioned of the pump kicking off every $75-100. That puts me in truck stops 100% of the time.

I usually fuel at Flying J and get the 3 cents of the cash price and pay with a card that accumulates airline miles. I put a pencil to the figures and getting 10 cents off per gallon is definitely the best option.

I do enjoy the float time too. Any fuel purchased after the 8th of September does not have to be paid until November 2nd. That is not a deal killer either but it is convenient at times.

Having said all of that, I did print the application a few days ago and it is laying right here. I need to fill it out and send it in because I am sure I will use the card at least part of the time.

I appreciate you all putting this deal together. You could be trying to drain us dry rather than help us save. That should be incentive enough for all of us to sign up and use the card when possible.

Truk: I am in the same boat as Gil. The application is on my desk – I have just too many other little things that have popped up, some have pooped up, plus after having come off a 3 week trip – my A is still dragging. I will get her done. Old farts just don’t move as fast as they used too. Just ask Jon.
