Using a charter company is significantly better than taking the coach to a Volvo truck dealer that might be on Prevost’s list of service providers. However keep in mind your motor home conversion has some significant differences between the seat coaches and the motor home.

Your suspension is one area to be particularly cautious. Seated coaches do not have level low. If your issues relate to the suspension it is probable they will not be able to help beyond fixing obvious issues.

Also, unlike seated coaches which are run a lot of miles their fleet may have shifted over to all Volvo engines. While they may have the skills and parts to service Series 60 or even 8V92 engines, it might be best to verify that.

I got the final bill for the starter solenoid. It was $313. Now I have a light on the dash “Starter On” and it won’t go off. So I think they hooked some wires up wrong.

Anyone ever have this light go on?

It might be on. Verifhy that. The reason for the light is to alert you of a solenoid still engaged after the engine is running.

But yes, it is also easy to understand the wiring could have a glitch.

The wire must be hooked up wrong , the light should only come on when you engage the starter , I think it’s a yellow wire but not a hundred percent on that

Thanks for the info. So maybe the solenoid is not working properly (not retracting) but the starter is?

There is a wire that sends a signal to the dash light to tell you the starter is engaged if the wire is not hooked up it can all work just fine I think but the light on the dash will not come to tell you it’s engaged, if you can find the wire on the starter and unhook it the light should go out but will not come on when you turn the key to start it , then you can hook it up the right way if you want, if you want the light on when you start it. Maybe Jeff will get in on this, But I am pretty sure the wire only goes to the light on the dash that’s it, Maybe Bob will see this he will know too!!!! Or Jon may have the wiring details for the starter and solenoid . But I might be wrong just check it out

Is the light on with key on engine off.

Yes. When I turn the key and engine off the light goes off. When I turn the key and not start the engine all the dash lights come on then most gom out. When I start the engine the Starter on light stays on. I need to get a wiring diagram to see if they hooked it up wrong.

I don’t have the diagram but logic tells me that Prevost likely has a signal wire that is energized when the starter motor is seeing power and the key is in the run position. If the starter motor remains powered when the engine is running the motor will burn it out very quickly.

In trying to figure out if it is possible for that wire to be connected wrong I don’t see how. If it is connected to the big positive cable going to the starter it would show correctly. If it was connected to the positive terminal on the solenoid it would also show properly. Just a brain dump without any benefit of facts.

I am taking the coach back to National Wrecker this morning. Maybe with Prevost service they can figure it out. I will let you know what happens.

National Wrecker fixed the problem they had the red wire on the battery terminal instead of the small terminal. If anyone experiences a solenoid problem, try to find a place that will just replace the solenoid and not the complete starter. It is much cheaper. Again thanks for all the help.
