1984 was the body change from the 96″ wide Le Mirage to the 102″ wide Le Mirage XL. The electrical system was all 24 volt on the chassis side. 12 volts was made availabel at post #70 in the front electrical junction box and was for low draw items such as radios, cb, etc. The headlights were 12 volt but worked on a setup that put 24 volts into one contact of the left headlight and the remaining voltage was then connected to one of the lugs on the right headlight. Theother lug on this headlight went to ground. Thus they were using the combined voltage drops across the two head lights to use up the 24 volts. All the other internal and external lights were 24 volt. The coach alternator was 24 volts. System set up as follows:
If there are Vanners in a 1984 they were installed by the converter. While you get 12 volts at the middle terminal ofthe Vanner, it was not created to be a power device by itself. It is as it is called an “equalizer”. It allows you to remove larger amounts of 12 volt power from you batteries without having the batteries bcoming unbalanced for load. It is really a sharing device that transfers power from the upper batteries (the ones connected to the 24 side batteries to the lower side batteries 12 volt where the power is being consumed more quickly.
As noted by people above the Vanner tries to keep the two 12 volt banks of batteries equalized to within 1/2 volt. If the load on the 12 volt side exceeds the rating of the Vanner then damage occurs and they eventually fail.
Prevost began using a 35 amp. Vanner when they started using ATEC Allison transmissions. The engine was still mechanical and the transmission was electronically controlled.DDEC ! engines were used in motor home shells in 1986 and DDEC 2 came in in 1988. With the inclusion of an electronically controlled engine and transmission Prevost went to 60-50 Vanner (50 amps).

If you have a DDEC 1 be carefully
Make sure the DDEC 1 is only feed with 12 volts
Accidentaly putting 24 Volts on it will destroy it instantly and DDEC 1’s are hard to come by.
