I have Verizon unlimited data & stream a lot of the time, especially when My RV is parked in a site with limited visibility.
I do what Harry described, I use my iPhone to stream Amazon movies or DirectTV TV, etc.

I’m going to have to check into this more completely. AT&T must offer an unlimited plan as well and I’ll be curious how the $$ would stack up AT&T vs DirecTV?
I forgot until Tim mentioned it that you can also stream DirecTV. I have that on my iPhone but haven’t use it. How does it work, you get the same plan on your phone that you have at your home?
I’m new to all of this… I have a dish on my bus but haven’t used it as yet and wasn’t thinking about all the other possibilities. We’re saying you can stream on your phone and not use the roof dish at all right?

Looks like I will be playing a lot of my Lennon Sisters VHS tapes in the future.
I don’t know if I am the only one, but if I add up my Comcast, Verizon and Direct TV bills it appears the total amount would support a small third world country. Maybe it is time to pull the old rabbit ears antenna out of the closet.

I haven’t yet switched to the unlimited plan, I hear stories of them throttling you back when you reach a certain amount of data, can you shed some light on that. I was recently at Verizon to upgrade my Jetpack, big difference and the sales dude suggested I not go to the unlimited plan.

I have Verizon Unlimited Plan and at 20 Gb they throttle you back to 3G service. Makes a hugh difference. I had a 22Gb package 4G and watched my usage when traveling and made sure I turned my Mi-Fi Jet pack off. Had no problems. After I went unlimited I stopped watching my usage and went over the 20Gb about half way through the pay period and it is a shock on the difference between 4G and 3G if anything has a photo or IPs with all their advertising. I probably will go back to my 22Gig package as I see no savings with the unlimited plan. I did all my changing on line, probably should have talked to your Dude.

When I switched from Verizon’s 22GB plan to unlimited, it cost me $10. Over the past six-months, I’ve never really noticed being “throttled” on my line. Remember, you have 22GB on each line you have with Verizon. I’ve yet to reach that level. A two-hour HD movie streaming uses around 2GB. So essentially you can watch 11 two-hour movies on each line you have (we have three lines) before being throttled. That means between Cindy & I, we can stream 22 two-hour movies before being throttled. Surfing the Internet really doesn’t use much data.
I would also say that while we’ve been able to stream Amazon movies several times a week, there are areas in the country where LTE Internet is a challenge and streaming 3GB is really a waste of time. Yes, there is a difference in 3GB which I sometimes get while on the farm in a rural area of Kansas. That’s why I still have my DirectTV satelitte service, in addition you can’t “channel surf” when streaming …
One last point, if I use my phone as a hotspot to stream to my laptop, I would get throttled on that hotspot at 10GB. Again, it’s not been an issue since I don’t stream a lot to my laptop … but I do watch a lot of UTbube video’s …

22g for each line, now that sheds some different light on things, I have 4 devices using data while traveling. Does that then cost you 100 a month for each line or 100 for all lines?

It cost me $10 more a month … total, moving from the 22GB plan to the Unlimited plan.
I would mention that sometimes when streaming I have to deal with “buffering” and if it’s not a strong LTE signals, it becomes a pain and I won’t stream at all.
But for $10 more a month, for me, it was a no-brainer …
And to clarify Tom, In the Unlimited plan, you get 22GB at LTE speed for each device that has its own line you pay for separately, not devices you have to use a hotspot for … that’s 10GB.

Tim is probably correct as I have not used my phone as a hot spot, only used the Jet Pak Mi-Fi and that is the one I went over the 22 gig on and got throttled. Will use my phone as a hot spot for my wi-fi on the laptop and see. I will try to schedul;e it toward the end of my monthly service (12th of month) so if it doesn’t work, it won’t hurt so much being on a slow line.

I took the unlimited because I use hotspot for work and home computer, no tv. And I still runout of 4g about 10 days before end of month, then I switch to phone hotspot ,as it seems total unlimited.

Thanks Tim, I do have 4 separate numbers using data. I spoke to Verizon today and they told me the Jetpack only gets a max of 10g on the unlimited plan and the other 3 devices share the 22g. I think I’m getting bad info.

When you go to the link, click on the “?” mark and it specifically spells out “22GB/line/mo”. Also, here’s a quote from Verizon’s FAQ’s:
What happens after I use 22GB of data?
Most of the time customers will enjoy the same great network experience once they exceed 22GB during a billing cycle. If you’ve already used 22GB on a particular line during your current billing cycle and you’re on a cell site that is congested at that moment, your download may be temporarily queued behind other Verizon Wireless customers, which may result in slightly slower download speeds.
The short story is: Each paid device gets 22GB and 10GB for a hotspot. After that, you “may” get throttled back to 3GB based on the area/congestion you’re in at that time. Again, I haven’t noticed a huge slow down, but some streaming can be slow because the LTE service is weak in some campgrounds I’ve visited.

We have AT&T service. our phones have always had unlimited data… but I never use them for videos or streaming… we had one “Hotspot” in the bus that was maybe $40 or $50 a month for 10GB (can’t remember exactly) then about 2 months ago they offered the same “hotspots” for $20 a month unlimited plan so I went down to change my plan to the unlimited plan and at the same time save a bunch of money… did some thinking while waiting and decided to add a second “hotspot” to our plan for $20 a month meaning I would have 2 unlimited hotspots for what I was already paying and when the speed drops I can use the other one… so far the speed has never dropped it’s always the same… except when in a bad area like Catherines Landing where the AT&T service was almost non existant …. Maybe I should get a booster antenna??? anyone have some ideas on that??

Based on my recent expereince I would NOT suggest going to the unlimited plan if you think you will exceed the limit. I was on a 100 gig plan and they called me and said we should switch. It was great for two months saved about $600 a month. But as soon as the grace period was over and we exceeded the 10 gig limit for the device we were 3g and I nearly killed people. The big issue was they couldn’t switch us back to the higher plan until the next billing cycle. I had to escalate to Regional Manger and they found a work around for a month but it was a lot of hassle.
their new unlimited isn’t really unlimited
