DTV/ATT has already stated their intent is to delete DTV in 2020. They reported it was losing money and reported that most cause was people using Hulu and various systems of streaming. They stated that they had no interest in continuing television services after 2020 and the birds would come down.

This was reported about 6 months ago. It has been speculated that since ATT aquiring DTV that ATT had no desire to be in the television business but their desire was to reutilize the sat birds for comms.

Guess I’ll be looking to upgrade my In-Motion DTV in the next year or so. It’s 16 years anyway, so the thought had crossed my mind.

But does this mean that if you have an In-Motion Satellite Dish and use DTV, that your Satellite Dish will be useless?

Until it happens I dont know that you could get a real answer…KVH is supposed to be able to program over, when this takes place…

Ok, I know this question has been asked and answered 100 times in the past, but it seems like the details are always changing. I just read a online post on another site that the KVH R6 is no longer supported by DISH.

I currently use Direct TV with the R6 and get most SD channels with it. I was thinking about changing to DISH to get HD channels with the R6, but now that seems like it might not be possible.

So if I want to get in motion HD Dish programming, what is the the best dish to get? I just look at the Wingard site and they have a low profile “Wingard Mission” in motion. Anyone have one?

Looking for any input that will help me make sense of the current and near future Sat TV market.

Keep in mind I have a H345 now, so height is an issue.

Isn’t it only a question of time when nobody will use satellite or antennas, but will be watching shows, news, listening to music, etc. from devices like MiFi or phones?

Winegard Mission looks to be a stationary antenna. Cost about $900. Winegard T-4 is an in motion at $1299.

I have the T-4 on roof nose and very pleased with it’s operation.

i dont doubt that someday we say we will be streaming nearly all video services. Of course there is a vast amount of the country that would go dark currently so that keeps the current system in tact.

I know a verizon Vice President who told me several markets in my area will not switch to the full FIOS service because of the extreme cost to implement the upgrades in those areas. In areas they need to upgrade because of failing infrastructure has been where the have focused. – except of course those large markets in which they can earn market share. In my area they chose not to compete with Comcast (who is very entrenched) but instead went after a different provider – mediacom, whose service here was sub par and infrastructure was poor – it didn’t hurt they had several very large communities (over 500 homes each) in planning when this happened. Of course, this was pre-2008. I wonder if they would do the same thing now or not.

Thanks a lot. There is a Mission version that cost $2000 that does in motion, but if the T4 works for less money, that sounds good to me.

Wireless is the future.Google fiber has changed their game plan, Implementing more wireless into their infrastructure builds of the major cities around the country. Our in motion tracking dishes might just be obsolete some day.

To show how far this wireless stuff is going, if your tires on the bus do not have chips in them, they will. They will record all kinds of data, including tire pressures. No sense having sensors in the tires or on the valve stem when a device can probably pick up the radio sinals from the chip in the tire and display the infor on a dash mounted device.

We have an In-motion Winegard Roadtrip Mission dome, model RT4035T, on the forward roof of our bus. It’s small, about 12″ tall. We have Dish service because we like In-motion HD, so Dish or Bell service are the choices. This antenna will do in-motion DirectTV SD. Let me explain.



For In-motion satellite service, the antenna must fit in a dome housing. DirectTV HD requires a larger parabolic shape antenna because it must receive multiple satellites at the same time. No one makes a dome for DirectTVs parabolic antenna requirement . So, no In-motion DirectTV HD, but SD yes. The above mentioned dome on our bus will do in-motion DirectTV SD. I’m sure there are many others.



Dish HD service only needs to point at/receive one satellite at a time for HD, so the antenna is small and round and fits in a dome housing, so there are many antenna choices for in-motion Dish HD service.



When were not using our bus, we “PAUSE” or service and the cost drops to $6/mth.

we just purchased an RF Mogul Eagle unit. I decided that the old engineers from motosat made a pretty good unit. Unlike the Wingard (no disrespect intended) if you have issues you do not need send in the whole unit for repair. It aso has the capabilty to switch LNBs between Dish & DTV. It is also lighter.

We currently have Direct HD service. If they go away, we’ll switch over to Dish. I think there will still be a market

as the marine industry needs Sat TV like we do.
