In regards to DirectTv I had been told by a master installer that next year they are doing a huge upgrade that will include in-motion HD and a lot of other changes in their satellites so it coud be very interesting !!

    Tim…

You aren’t kidding about all the rain we have had… everything is mildewed around here… we drove to Florida for vacation for two weeks and it rained on us most of the way but has been dry since we got back… Luckily for us our house is on a high lot with pretty good drainage… Houston was hit the hardest… really bad flooding. Now it looks like we’re in for a long hot summer… so we will be beach bound every weekend!

Tim you say you get locals when travelling…I know its the NBC CBS and ABC from NY or somewhere… I also know that years ago they required a separate account to get that also signed affidavits etc.. is that still the case?

    Cheers, Diane

It’s not a separate account; however, I had to go thru their corporate office. They sent me an affidavit to sign that stated I didn’t have a permanent residence. The waiver comes from the FCC. Mine is good for the next five years.

I’m not sure if you can do it if you have a permanent residence, but a call to their corporate office, asking to speak with their representative handling RVs, should answer your question.

Also, I’ve noticed that I can usually pick up local channels or PBS thru my regular antenna which is HD, but I usually just use the in-motion satellite.

As far as starting/stopping my service, I don’t worry about since we’re on the road so much & the cost savings isn’t huge.

    We have had both…

We currently have DirectTV… when we travel if the campground does not have cable for local channels… we contact DirectTV with the zip code for where we are staying and they flip a magic switch and then we have local channels to keep up on the weather and local info. We had to pay an extra one time fee while in Tennesse (Thanks Jeff) because of the sports viewing package we subscribe to… so ask if there are any extra fees to change your location.

It sure seemed as if DishTV is always threatening to or removing a network from their system

    If
you’re full timing, you can get Direct locals as stated by calling with the
zip code. If you have a residential account, no go on the locals or
the distant network (east/west coast feeds). I just went through all
of this canceling my home and only having service in the bus.

I have Direct with my primary residence being my home and my 2nd residence being the Prevost. Whenever I call Direct they usually answer after a few rings and the customer service rep is in the U.S.A. They can see the two residences though I usually have to explain that the 2nd residence is a motor home. I change the zip code on the 2nd residence and I get local channels.

But if the RV resort has cable which most that we visit do, I can switch from DSS to Cable and also get the local channels.
