  • Direct vs dish

Posted by victor on June 22, 2016 at 8:35 am

I am thinking of changing my satellite and trying to decide on switching to direct tv. Which do prevost owners prefer?

I’ve only had Direct TV, but I’ve been satisfied with their service.

Since I don’t have an HD satellite, I only get their second to lowest package since I wouldn’t get a number of their channels which are only broadcast in HD.

Have had them both and Dish now. Really not much difference except With Dish have a plan that only costs $10 bucks a month , for bus, when added to the Home System.

I’ve had both, Direct now, but any change I make in the future will be to Dish because of being able to turn the service on and off as needed. I stayed with Direct because I had it at home, that’s no longer the case, so a switch to Dish is in my future. Another plus with Dish is you can still get a dome for HD, not in motion.

I cannot ev aluate the two, having only had Direct, but we really prefer the Direct with an in motion satellite because the XM music available on channels 800 and up are our source of music for driving. Then when parked we have access to all the channels we normally have at home except the local stuff.

I’m sure an HD image is nice, but whatever the type image we get now is perfectly acceptable.

I had dish in my home and when we wanted to add receivers to the boat ( years ago) they said I had to have a separate account… besides their service lousy so I switched to Diect who allows me to have a s many receivers as I want… so we have them in the boats… the bus and at home and a monthly charge of $4.99 a month for each additional receiver which suits me fine.

I have had awesome service from DTV too.

    Cheers, Diane

    Victor,

King Dome KD-5500. That was 3 years ago, so there are probably other options now.

Direct. Same reasons as Dianne plus…NFL Ticket/better sports programing and now they have made it simple to get the east/west feed wherever you are. Geo.

    Victor:

DirecTV all the way for us now. We have HD but not in-motion. A few years ago we had Dish with an in-motion on another coach. We liked to be able to turn it off when not travelling but had constant problems with Dish. Many phone calls. We had Direct in motion for 4 years on the coach we had before the Prevost and now have HD DirecTV in the Prevost but not in-motion. We’ve never had a problem with DirecTV. The 2 bus receivers are on our home account.

You should be walking the dog not watching TV anyway.

To parrot Doug … If your dog is fat, YOU are not getting enough exercise.

We have Direct with a year old King Dome and have been very happy with both. As Diane said even though the reciever is in the bus it is treated just as an additional reciever in the home.

Doug, you are absolutely right…the reason for changing the satellite is to get hd. Right now I have in motion sd. Perfer hd. If changing satellite just want to consider the best choice. Hope you and mary are well and give abby a hug

We use Dish. We have a TracStar for In-Motion and a portable dish on a tripod for HD and DVR when parked. My wife calls Dish or goes on-line and changes our local address when we’re in an area for awhile or there’s some local program she wants to see or record.

FWIW; we have not had to have our TracStar programing updated.

To elaborate on Geo’s post, for $15 extra a month, I get all the local channels & PBS out of NY. I could have chosen the West coast but I do more travel on the East coast.

    Diane,

Speaking of boats, you probably needed one this spring/summer with all the rain!
