I just ordered a Wix 24070 coolant filter w/out chemical sound OK I have a Napa 4070 on now, Getting ready to change all coolant hoses Thermostats and coolant filter

NAPA branding a 4070 filter which is labeled by WIX for the 6000 +/- NAPA stores in North America.
Other vendors who wish to sell WIX are given a fifth number, usually a 2.
There is no difference in the filter in box.

Hello Art – are you changing coolant type this time, or has it already been done. I have been reading old posts regarding draining, re-filling with distilled water repeatedly…Not sure if I will go back with Power Cool or Power Cool Plus

Art, if you are planning to use 6 year coolant the cartridge needs to be a blank. The six year organic acid chemistry will not work if the cartridge has additives.
If you are going with 2 year coolant it is a conventional chemistry and it needs a cartridge with SCA’s that it releases over time to maintain the chemistry.

When I 1st bought the bus that was one of the 1st things I did was to get rid of the green antifreeze. I flushed out system with distilled a couple of times ran engine each time and refilled with Prestone Command HD AFC 1000 concentrate with SCA Pre-charged Extended service interval and a Napa 4070 blank filter. I filled up system with an extra gallon of antifreeze concentrate because of distilled water in heater lines. I had coolant tested a few months ago and they said it tested good but I know it’s impossible to get all the old green stuff out completely I got about 15K miles since that and 3 years ago,so this time with changing thermostats-hoses I going to also replace antifreeze hopefully I should be good on antifreeze. I’m going to ordered 10 gallons of the same antifreeze concentrate and distilled water. I already got the 2 blue braided hoses to coolant filter (they were rock hard) from Prevost, And from detroit the 2 bypass hoses and water pump hoses, And from Flex Technologies all the silicone hoses for trans and oil cooler hoses and radiator connection all the hoses.

Not to throw a wrench in the conversation, but I was recently at Prevost for a service visit and had my coolant changed from “oem green” to extended life coolant. In the process, they flushed the motor and lines several times and ran the coach in between to get better extraction.
When I got the coach back, I noticed the coolant filter was not “blank” as I had used in the past, but was a filter that has additives, but was made for OAT or extended life coolant. It threw me off to the point I was ready to march back to Prevost and demand a correction, but after researching the filter, I was convinced it was made for OAT (extended life) coolant.
To further supprt this, I was recently near a friends coach who had the same thing. His coach was serviced at Marathon in San Antonio, Florida. But the same with a filter with additives made for OAT.
I’m not near my coach right now, but will try to find the filter # and post here.

I’m not a antifreeze professional but this antifreeze I’m using is not the OAT technology antifreeze it is a conventional extended life antifreeze I think a 5 year antifreeze that they add the SCA protection in it that’s why the blank, I think after a while It would need a filter with chemical in it. I torture myself sometimes when i’mchanging something like antifreeze, and I like the input, when I first got bus I posted antifreeze question and Don and I spoke about antifreeze and this is what we came up with. The OAT has to be totally clean and flushed to change to, the Prestone not so much.

What do they use to “flush the motor and lines”? Tap water? City or well water? Soft water?
I suppose some residual water is left in the system when they are done flushing. Correct?
And that get mixed with the new antifreeze when they put that into they system. Correct?

It has been a while since I got deep into the OAT and conventional anti freeze with SCA’s, but at the time it was universally agreed among the manufacturers of the OAT coolants that the conditioning filter should be blank.
The technology of products changes so while some OAT coolants may require or accept conditioning filters with some additives I would not want to make a statement for or against that unless some coolant manufacturers have a need to have their chemistry maintained by some means such as a cartridge.
What was the gospel at the time OAT coolant pioneered by Caterpillar was introduced is that adding SCA’s to the coolant either by a cartridge or a bottle of additive converted the coolant to a 2 year product.

I can’t tell you exactly what water they used…I’m sure it was whatever water source they have a Prevost Nashville. The intent of flushing, then running the engine on water is to promote circulation which will dilute the old coolant left in the heater lines down to an acceptable level.
I should have read closer that the conversation wasn’t about non OAT, extended life coolant. I. have never dealt with that, so I’ll back out of this conversation.

Art – If I am mistaken, I am sure I will promptly be corrected, but I believe what you have pictured is no different than any other heavy duty diesel engine coolant that is precharged with supplemental coolant additives, and does requires a coolant filter WITH supplemental coolant additives, along with regular chemistry tests via the readily available test strips. My 14L Series 60 states this type of coolant should be replaced every two years.
Seems with all the prep work you intend to do now would be the perfect time to change to an OAT coolant such as Peak brand Final Charge or Detroit Diesel Power Cool PLUS (each of with requires the blank type of cartridge you mention). Final Charge states its chemistry is good for one million miles without any additive at the prior six year mark.
I, too, am preparing to drain, flush and change my coolant and have decided to use Peak brand Final Charge, which is manufactured by the same company that makes DD Power Cool Plus. The name of the company is Old World Industries.
Here are two links to the product in your photos. “Extended Service Interval” is not defined. Again, I believe this particular coolant is no different than that which you drained three years ago – just a different color.

I’m with Jeff, this appears to be heavy duty coolant with pre-charge, but not Extended Life.

I did not get antifreeze yet, so I can google search OAT antifreezes any links? Looking not any prices just info, What is Noat? Peak has Oat and Noat can you buy it in concentrate ?? lots of info no prices and where to buy it

You can buy Peak (OAT) Final Charge at O’Reilleys. Can be purchased in both concentrate and diluted. May not be the best price, but available wherever you can find an O’Reilleys.

Organic Acid chemistry is the type of coolant that typically has an extended 6 year life.
It is important to provide a clean coolant system since conventional coolants or additives can destroy the ability for the coolant to provide a 6 year life.
I used radiator flush on my coach and after about 1 1/2 hours of use at operating temps, I drained that and flushed the system about 4 times. Despite that number of flushes I was still seeing the pink of the Detroit coolant, so I flushed it about 4 more times and still saw pink, but determined the remaining conventional coolant was such a small amount it would not adversely affect the extended life coolant that I got from Detroit.
It is possible to get a variety of coolants, both conventional and OAT and probably cheaper prices, but to the extent possible I prefer to use materials and components on my bus that are approved or provided by Prevost or the manufacturer of major components like the engine, generator, etc.

You will see reference to Final Charge “CONVERTER” (link below). I am thinking of converting first, then driving say five hundred miles, then draining and then refilling with Final Charge OAT. Thinking this approach, which would only cost about $150 extra, yet would ensure ALL of the coolant in the system would be OAT, then simply do a typical drain and refill without all the flushing.
GOOD NEWS is that Final Charge has test kits available for their OAT coolant whereas in the past no test strips were in existence. More good news is that there is no longer any mention of adding “extender” at the six year mark. Their literature states for on-highway use, one million miles.
