Clearing Engine Codes

So what do you experts recommend for an economic solution for reading the codes off my 8V92 with DEC II. I’m not really interested in more information going down the raod but would like to read and clear any codes. I’ve looked on e-bay but the reader (hardware) and software combinations leave me in a daze.

I can’t tell you the specifics on your model year coach but every DDEC coach has a means of flashing the codes so at least you can get an idea of what the CEL or SEL is telling you.
Maybe someone with your vintage coach knows or maybe you can find it in the Prevost Service Manual.

Joe, I think if you push the over ride button it will flash any active codes.

I have the manual and can look up how to flash the code (certainly don’t recall how) but also interested in a ready. Have tried to sort it our a couple of times but never get there. Don’t want to spend thousands on one.

The first one I bought I got for $225 and the second for $1000. The second one was actually the better deal because I can not only get the codes for my DDEC V and read all the data, I also have the software for my ABS and transmission. I have used it for my engine and ABS and even though I have a message center to get codes, there is nothing more comforting to read the code and then look at the actual data from the engine to determine if I have an immediate concern.
Be patient and keep looking. they show up all the time.

Thanks Jon that helps, then I still need the cartridge specific to the DEC II and a cable. Right?

Yes. Actually keep looking and sometimes you can find one with the software you need for a low price.
Both of the ones I bought had cables, software, and the books with codes.
