Jeff replaced our 18 year old frig….wasn’t giving us a problem, but at that age, just thought it’d be smart.

They did a beautiful job….nice refrigerator….glad we did it!

Just replaced compressor on 2012 LG under warranty for parts only. LG, Samsung typical junk ! Nothing built since @ 2000 lasts much past @ 5yrs. This is marketing 101. Just look at cars.

Manufacturing of today is so capable and precise overbuilding for reliability is no longer how products are designed. The problem with old manufacturing methods was they lacked the repeatability and accuracy we have today so fit and finish was poor and failures were not uncommon when all the tolerances went the wrong way.

Considering the complexity of the appliances and cars of today they are superior in every respect to older products. The old refrigerators that sat on porches for decades and worked for 50 years were those overbuilt ones that were lucky enough all the tolerances were lined up and worked well together. But most of the old refrigerators did not come close to matching what we have today. Today’s problem is because manufacturing can control tolerances to such a high degree the designers can literally come up with a design life for a product because they know the consumer is not going to keep the products of today like they did decades ago.

Cars a a good example of how good today’s quality is. The engines and components have lives measured in hundreds of thousands of miles, compared to previous generations that might make it to 100,000 but you had to change oil every 3000 miles or less, plugs ever 10,000, miles, tires wore out in 20,000 miles, and some rusted so fast you could hear the car eating itself up if you listened.

I think it’s got more to do with accelerated durability testing. Testing is now good enough that its cheaper to determine if marginal components will last past warranty than it is to overbuild the product. They have the ability to try cheaper and cheaper components until they determine that the likely warranty claim issues outweigh the component cost savings.

Kirby saved our 22 year old JennAir fridge by replacing the defrost timer. That was summer before last. Someday it will die and I’ll be posting for folks to tell me what model fit best in the space.

My Whirlpool side by side was still working but old refers suck the juice, the guy from Lifeline said the new refers are a lot more efficient then the old ones, And I wanted to upgrade, I bought the 5 year warranty parts-labor- service call so if something happens the come to us.
