    Travelingman,

Thank you for the information. I am able to access the rear also in my coach and when cleaning the coils underneath I also removed the cardboard section in the rear of refrigerator and cleaned the fan and around the compressor. The unit has been cleaned yearly by the previous owner and I cleaned it last year also.

I have always cleaned my refrigerators at home but have never had one like this Amana that has a on/off switch for the fan. The does turn on and stays running the entire time even with the alarm going off. Once the unit is powered back on the fa. Will start after a couple of minutes but wont get cold. I do not have experience with freon/gauges but have no problem testing anything electrical but not sure what to start with. Frank

    Frank,

    Is the compressor coming on?

I believe only the fan next to the compressor is coming on.

It is highly likely that you have a bad compressor relay or capacitor. They should both be mounted to the compressor. You can remove both and replace with a universal 3 in 1 hard start capacitor. It functions as both parts. If the fridge is older it will help kick it over better than original parts. Make sure you size it with the hp of the compressor. Very simple to install and available on Amazon.

Compressor comes on and fan next to compressor comes on, the fan behind the panel in the freezer is not coming on, and I don’t know if there is a fan on the other side of the fridge but I don’t hear nor feel any air flow on that side either

That’s what my fridge is doing, fan in freezer is not working but compressor comes on and fan next to compressor comes on.

If the fan in the freezer dose not come on the lower part of the freezer will be cold but nothing in the rest of unit.

Some have a motorized damper that lets air circulate when the fridge calls for cool. That me be stuck or defective.

    Ed:

Who quoted you $3,500? There are a number of shops near New Braunfels that I think would do the job much less expensively.

I paid $1,500 in Sheboygan, WI to have it done and I feel I paid a premium, but the round trip to ETLC plus the invoice from Jeff would have likely been the same or exceeded that.

PS: Ed … Are you out in the country? Coach often parked outside? I think we drove by your place a few times driving between New Braunfels and Canyon Lake a few months ago.

Since there is a discussion on refrigerators, we have a 19 year old Jen Air side by side, it is still getting the job done, but who knows when it will give up. We want to schedules the replacement instead of it. Is there any recommendation on which brand to go with.

The freezer fan in my GE died when Prevost failed to plug the coach in properly and 1/2 the coach was hit with 240V. I disassembled the back of the freezer and found the fan motor had blown up. As a temp fix I was able to install a computer fan to get the circulation going again, ordered a new part from GE and got the fridge working like new again. This fridge is now 21 years old and still runs great!
