+1 on staying away from samsung
first problem I had with my amana was an evaporator fan WHICH IS ACCESSED FROM THE INTERIOR OF FRIDGE…easy. Couple/few years later I lost compressor and replaced unit.

They are all sideways for me to Dick.
Who is that old bald fellow in the red tshirt.

Dick,
Don’t recall off hand, reasonable as I’ve always been satisfied at Marathon. My cost were hours times 2 men.
I don’t recall anything out of ordinary.
Over the years staying with my coach has been the right thing to do. After any repairs a road test, function test, over night test and inspection where they worked.
Boring some times, but my money is paying.

Jimmy,
It’s a common problem on many websites with IPhone, if the picture is taken while holding the phone vertical it will be the wrong orientation. Holding the phone horizontal will upload correctly.

I was reading this thread a couple days ago. Well guest what? The high temperature alarm on the refrigerator went off yesterday and both the freezer and refrigerator are hot. I cleaned out the coils and vacuum out the underneath (barely dirty) and the fan is running. After unplugging and cleaning underneath and then plugging it back in the fan will turn on after a minutes and will continue to run but after a couple of hours it still is not cold and then the high temperature alarm went back off.
Any suggestions what to check next?

Dabank as you can see from this thread there are a multitude of problems that can cause a refrigerator to stop running. Thermistors, defrost circuit, no freon, bad compressor, invertor, start run capacitor, etc..
It costs $3,500.00 to take a refrigerator out through the window in XL plus the cost of the refrigerator from quotes I got before recharging mine. Marathon on “my bus not yours” had a storage compartment built into wall in toilet area that when removed I could access the entire back of refrigerator down by compressor.
Your fan coming on elimnates one problem only. Cleaning coils is a must I had 20 years of dust. To check the refrigerator charge if you are not handy with guages or puncturing a freon line…it is well worth calling a local appliance company to come out and diagnose the problem if they can get access to back.

For a labor cost of 3500 to install new fridge I can make mine as good as new with all new parts for less than half of that, that’s why I’m on the fence as to replace. I just can’t justify paying 3500 for install plus the cost of fridge that’s almost 5k

Ralf, open the freezer door, take your Phillips screwdriver and remove about 18 screws around the back panel. Is the fan you see in the middle running? You might also check the defrost timer which is located behind the lower panel at the base of the fridge on the right side. All parts are available from Amana with just the model number of the fridge. Fan about $35. I replaced everything other than the compressor for about $100 including the defroster heater strip.
Saying all that, a new unit should conserve more energy if that is a concern, plus a new unit should last about half as long as the older models. (if refrigerators follow the life span of most newer appliances.)

The fan motor for our amana was no longer being made. Replaced with a universal motor 10 months ago. Working fine.

Just had mine replaced at Jeff’s and the labor was around $800. The invoice is in the coach so I don’t have an exact amount. I am sure it depends on how much modifications have to be made to fit the new refrigerator.
When should you replace a 14-15 year old refrigerator? Same as a hair cut–before you need it.

When my Amana was replaced with a Bosch the decision was not easy. The doors on the Amana were trimmed to match the coach interior. The Bosch was not and could not be altered to maintain the look of the Amana as installed.
After having gone through multiple repairs, by the time the 4th failure occurred it was obvious I was nursing an old cheap appliance that wasn’t going to be reliable unless EVERYTHING was replaced with new. Switches, circuit boards, compressor, condensing and evaporator coils, fans, thermostats, valves, door gaskets, lights and displays, and defrost heater.
Or I could replace it. The decision went way past dollars. It involved a change in technology the way the refrigerators worked. The Bosch had a couple of nice features. In the end, as distasteful as opting to replace the Amana it turned out to be the correct decision. The 15 year newer Bosch was almost silent, far more convenient to use, worked better, and it drew far less power which was important when dry camping.
But the whole process was done in less than half a day and while I cannot remember the cost, it wasn’t even close to $3500, including the price of the Bosch which wasn’t a cheap refrigerator.
