My Bus has the Dex/Merc Dexron III. i am looking for the capacity of my transmission. I fully drained the pan, added 1 gallon and it is showing on the cold mark on the dipstick which can’t be right. I have always been suspect of this dipstick. I have a 6″ pan and I found this online, not sure if it correct or not that is why i was intrigued by Jon’s method.

When i drained it i carefully poured all the oil into 1 gallon jugs and I got 6 1/2 gallons. Seems like i might have been a gallon short?

What about the filters? They may hold some fluid in those chambers also…

The Wanderlodge guys are super helpful with this kind of stuff, The concensus over there is 8 gallons is required, 7 1/2 in the pan and 1/2 gallon for the filter.
