    Jon,

I don’t make a habit of disagreeing with you or Tom for that matter on just about anything but I am going to to take issue with part of your last post. I think you would be crazy not to feel more comfortable having Peter or his Brother’s crew following. Parts of Alaska, Most of the Alaska we visited were incredibly remote. It’s going to be days or longer for someone with the correct equipment and experience to do anything much on a Prevost. Our biggest concern was something tire related given what we heard about the roads. As I indicated previously they didn’t turn out to be nearly as bad as we were expecting for most of the journey but the part that was bad was way bad.

So we had our bus in top shape before we left checked it out fully again before crossing into Alaska so comfortable as we could be with our maintance plan but I don’t care if you replace everything on it stuff can still break.

I don’t think anyone was suggesting not maintaining their coach and counting on Peter’s truck as their PM program that would be insane and I am sure Peter nor his brother would want any part of that scene.

So perhaps I am missing your point but from what I have read many of the larger carivans indicate they have a “mechanic” with them likely not someone with Jeff or Peter’s expereince for sure.

I think it’s a great Offer Peter made. Weather or not it all works out will need to be determined but I for one would have love to have him following me when I was there. I did my best to prepare and went it alone.

Interestingly enough I had some DD issues outside Kamloops and Peter was able to help by phone to get it checked out at a place he knew it turned out to be a sensor but in the process they found another issue that would have been a big deal had it not been found.

If I was going I would be thrilled to have support just in case. The offer is for a service truck, not a tow truck.

Hell of of an offer Peter…

I agree with Bill and Tom. If I had any issue,in some remote part of Alaska, even such as just a engine sensor or tire problem and I had Peter’s people along with the group, hell I would feel like I broke down in Prevost’s parking lot. That would be a huge since of security for me. Very gracious offer Peter. And yes I think it would be inline for all going to compensate Peter for his willingness to be of service.

If you guys are going for two months we could not do that but like Tom said its for a service truck not a tow truck just let me know how long it would be for and we can see if we can make this work

There is no doubt Peter’s offer is ideal, and having immediate access to service is superb. In fact if you can get Peter to come along that is all you need because he can rebuild the average Prevost just from the parts he carries.

The mindset I bring to the table is everyone going should insure their coach is as up to snuff as possible so they feel they will not need service and that none will be available. I would be concerned knowing service is available is going to allow some folks to defer needed maintenance because they know someone has their backs.

I sure wish I could commit to going to Alaska in 2017. But it is not in the cards right now. If Peter would provide a Service truck that just carried a couple of tires, 315 and 365, a few spare belts, air bags and maybe a couple of windshields that would be enough to make a lot of people just “feel” better about such a trip.

Of course I am sure the truck would have a lot more on it. If enough people joined in on a losely organized schedule knowing that support was only a day or two away, it might work out for everyone. But they should all help pay for that “Service Truck” crutch that makes them feel better prepared and safer on the trip.

Just knowing that other PC members are on the same trip and that mini-rallies could be scheduled along the way would make the trip a lot more fun.

If Peters crew can not make it,perhaps last resort, you could get

Bear Grylls to go along. He wouldnt eat much, maybe bring a cooler full

of nightcrawlers. I wish I could go.Just trying to be helpful.

A service truck provides parts and a skilled technician. But if no service truck is available and the group is large enough at least the issue regarding “spares” can be dealt with. Any members towing a pickup or vehicle with some suitable storage can be used to carry a pair of tires. Tools and smaller spares can be spread among the other toads.

The owners themselves can become their own technicians. Repairs I have made over a long periond of time are rarely those that require a lot of skills, just a willingness to get dirty. Chassis supports, good tools, a tire iron or two and the group just needs people willing to dig in and help each other.

Not sure if I’ll be able to do this Alaska thing this year because of some health issues. However I hope this thread will stay open by those who are interested in doing it. If not this year maybe next year.
