If there is enough interest, you may advertise as a PC No Rally in Alaska.
Tom,
That would be the perfect trip for you from your new residence in Florida! -
Tom and Jon: Do you have the ability to conduct an interest poll on the Forum?
-
We have been thinking about this also. Lets see where this goes…could be quite an experience with a small group.
-
If enough sign up to go then I will be able to go since all the work will be in Alaska….
-
It’s a little far away (time-wise, not miles)….but, it might be a possibility for us too in summer of 2017.
We were in Alaska in 1997 taking a coach trip thru Canada on an extended-chassis bus with an accordian about 2/3rd’s back (total length probably 55-60 ft. long). The front was for seating for 40 people, the rear had a lounge with a bathroom. We stayed in hotels at night. This trip included a train and a cruise down the inside passage from Anchorage to Vancouver then returning home.
I would like to see Alaska again!
Mark

If Jeff, Josh, and Danno go; and Bill and Lauren go again, we will go too! Na, we’ll go anyway.
-
This sounds like great fun. Where do we go from here? And when?
-
Here;s what I suggest…….Thius is also a response to Tom’s email to me.
Someone who wants to carry the ball for a while, please start a thread on the general discussions heading. Maybe there might be a couple threads required. I suggest if there is a substantial continuing interest we can easily create a line on the discussion board dedicated to the topic and move the threads to it.
I can’t speak for Tom, but we would not be able to go so I won’t be able to be much help.
-
I think it’s already started right here, so keep it here and we can then move it as interest picks up.
This is could turn out to be a big deal….

My brothers and my company maybe able to send a service truck with the group with parts and a tech who has worked on Prevost for 25 years free of charge unless you get work done then we will charge ,if you get it together,we could meet you at border from Canada go up and back to border
Edit would have to check with my brother and make sure the dates work but you guys are just getting it together now so lots of time left

Wow this thing is really starting to grow some legs. After I started getting all the notifications of people wanting to check out our blog… I spent some time yesterday and watched all the videos from Alaska and a few of the other places we went on our trip and I couldn’t help but smile.
I am not sure I can step up to lead this adventure but I certainly can help and have detailed notes on what we did and where we went the big questions I would pose for the group would be the following:
How many people would be interested?
How long would you want to be in Alaska?
How far would you want to drive in a day? What would be your Max?
If the idea would be to try and stay together as a group. coming to an agreement on all these and more quesitons would be important to the planning process.
We drove in and took the ferry out of Haines to Bellingham WA. Seeing a ferry full of Prevosts would be something to see..

Bill:
You ask some good questions! Here are my answers …
How many people would be interested? The number appears to be growing almost daily. One or two should be easy to organize. We’ve never caravanned. How many is too many?
How long would you want to be in Alaska? I suspect a week or two is too short. My late friend Charlie Raymond went on a Prevost caravan to Alaska in the 1990’s which I recall was led by a school teacher and his wife. As I recall, the trip was six weeks and they started and ended in Dawson Creek, BC which appears to be the beginning of the Alaska Highway. I recall he said it took them six or seven days to get from La Crosse, WI to Dawson Creek … I suppose Wilbur can add two days to that if he is starting in SC. Since you’ve been there … what is reasonable? Six weeks seems like a long time to me, but maybe there is more than enough stuff to see. My Dad and uncle drove from Shawano, WI to Alaska and back in 1948 or 1949, the then Alcan Highway was gravel (actually small rocks as my Uncle now relates), no pavement, something called “gumbo” in one or two of the Canadian provinces, and it took them six weeks.
How far would you want to drive in a day? What would be your Max? I think that depends on what the roads are like (i.e. how fast can one safely drive) and is there stuff to stop and see. Again I fall back on what I remember from what Charlie told me … I recall he said they drove between 125 and 400 miles a day. Is that reasonable? I presume that at some of the stops it makes sense to stay a few days to see all the sights. Is the trip on the Alaska Highway through Canada a slow trip, a moderate trip, or a fast trip?
If the idea would be to try and stay together as a group. coming to an agreement on all these and more quesitons would be important to the planning process. You can say that again. One of the things that appealed to me about the trip that my friends took was that caravan master pretty much dictated the route and the timing. as they made arrangements along the way for the campgrounds and side trips all with reservations.
We drove in and took the ferry out of Haines to Bellingham WA. Seeing a ferry full of Prevosts would be something to see..How many Prevosts could be reasonably carried on the ferry? Is riding the ferry similar to taking a boat trip along the same route?
Looking forward to you input as well as additional input from those who have blazed the trip to Alaska ahead of us.

I’m not going, but this is a general comment………..If anyone thinks Peter and his brother should contribute a tow truck, I would urge two things. First, everyone needs to break out their wallet and share in the cost because that is a serious expense. But perhaps more importantly, if you really will feel more comfortable having a tow truck along you might want to rethink your maintenance program.
I’ll go away now.
