Not this summer Wilbur but we’re looking at 2017 so if you get up there this summer please let us know all your details.

Going up once this year, twice last year , go up and enjoy the ride
-
Tim and Per are you going up with a caravan, group, or by yourself? Peter i’m yours is work related. Again just wondering, or thinking out loud.

Wilbur,
Right now we’re going by ourselves but certainly open to traveling with others. Not sure about the caravan thing, but again, we would consider it.
-
We have friends who said they want to go also, but none others so far; we would not be opposed to traveling with more folks.

The chief information officer on Alaska is Bill Fogerty. His Alaska trip has been featured in Marathon’s quarterly magazine. Traveled up by road and back by boat….with wife, Lauren, 3 kids,1 dog.
Here on PC we helped him several times with things during his trip when he was having second thoughts about traveling 1 year and appox 28 K miles.
BTW…..Bill has great stories

Happy to Talk with any PC member about Alaska. It was amazing and I can’t recommend it enough. We were concerned about taking the bus but everything was fine and it was the best part of our 14.5 month 49 state adventure. Lauren and I will for sure be going back.

Bill,
Do you recommend a front bra for the coach prior to going on the trip? Any other accessories for the bus you would consider necessary?
Also, did you do a thread on this site regarding your trip? I’d love to read about your experiences.

Just thinking that if anyone going in ’16 or ’17 would like to do parts of the trip as a group maybe we could meet up somewhere along the way. If anyone has an interest and would like to, email me at wilbur@mclambproperties.com

Tim,
We didn’t modify the coach in anyway for the trip. We had it all checked out before going and continued routine and PM While on the road.
Our advice would be take your time and enjoy it. Roads were in excellent shape with the exception of Destruction Bay to Tok which was the last bit of the Alaskan Highway. Kept it slow and no problems… many others were not so lucky from what we heard in tok.
We maintained a blog for the enitre trip you can access it at http://www.fogartyadventures.com
You will need to register at the site and it will send you a password. Let me know if you have issues or don’t get the email with the password.

We too would like to take an extended trip to Alaska and have lots of questions. Not having been to Alaska before I’m thinking a trip in our coach would be 3x to 10x more difficult and complicated than an extended trip in the lower 48 states.
Given the uniqueness of traveling to Alaska, I wonder if Jon and Tom would create a special Forum topic dedicated to Touring Alaska in a Prevost?

I understand where you all are coming from with your concern about taking a bus to Alaska… we were right there with you before we decided to go. My wife was especially concerned about damage to the bus getting stranded for parts, etc. But after speaking with some former members of this forum who had been the summer before we decided to go.
All the stories you hear like get gas and food anytime you see it . Just are not true. Yes you won’t be fueling at truck stops most of the time. You won’t be camping at mega resorts with 50 amp most of the time. But if you take your time and listen to the locals you will have the trip of your lifetime.
I have been to all 50 states 49 with the bus and there is nothing like it. If you have been on an Alaskan Cruise its nothing like that either.
We did the trip with 3 kids and a dog. My son is asking me a about once a week when we are going back. We are not fishers but we caught our limit on Halibut and Salmon and shipped a bunch home as well as had the freezer in the bus full… our kids won’t eat store bought anymore.
If there is a group of people interested we could also set up a confernce call sometime.. I have a line for work and any intersted could just pepper me with questions. Or I am happy to talke to people individually.
The trip was lifechanging so if your in a position to be able to go. GO!

If there is enough interest in all things concerning Alaska, we could dedicate a topic to those discussions, especially if a PC group or caravan becomes reality. I haven’t discussed this with Jon, but we’re a little gun shy on adding functions because some have turned out to be a complete waste of our time and resources.
We’ll hear from Jon on this, so stand by.
