Kroil is excellent; never heard of mixing acetone & dextron; will certainly give it a try; of course, heat works well too

#1 on that list is interesting. I guess the success of any of these is whether or not the item one was trying to remove was removed. I have never had the opportunity to try multiple brands of penetrating oi, usually i snap the stud after trying the first one.

Be prepared to have the studs come out of the head, and when they do coolant will leak. It is not an unusual event.

Lab testing of penetrating oils shows the 50/50 mix of acetone and tranny fluid is way way better than any brand of penetrating oil, by a bunch.

    Mike,

Sorry i somehow missed your post in June asking about my exhaust repairs. I only replaced the 5″ turbo exhaust pipe and the 2- 3″ down pipes from the wye to the maniflolds. I didnt do anything with the muffler as it seems solid for now. Everything went fine except for that i am not thrilled with the v-band clamps that i used. The old ones had 3/8″ bolts and the new ones are only 1/4″ Jeff

Have you ever pulled the turbo off? I am contemplating doing that in this go around.

Well i decided to address my Radiator today, pulled it out, and put a bore scope inside. Now i know why i struggle keeping the engine temps down.

I am going to try and clean it myself, the Radiator has no leaks and is in good shape other than flow. Anyone know where to get the gaskets and sealant? seems like something has oozed in at assembly 30 years ago.

Mike I’d find a good Radiator shop to R&R that puppy for sure. Cheap Insurance for a 8V92.

I have another issue to resolve, one of the ears is broken off. Out of the 8 cylinders, I had only 3 that were actually still sealed. Now i know why my boost was so low, the turbo wasn’t working very hard.

    Mike:

What causes that degree of scale build up?

Hard water, lack of use and incorrect coolant mixtures would be my guess. the bus sat for 10 years in AZ before I rescued it. Keep in mind this radiator is 30 years old in combination with a poor maintenance history.
