50 Amp Male Plug on Liberty
Well… we had the plug on the end of our electric reel power cord go bad when Larry accidently plugged into our surge protector and missed plugging in between the slot on one side… It got hot and melted the cord to the surge protector… had no idea until we tried unplug as there was no indication inside the coach electrical panel at all. He must have had it on a bad angle when he plugged it in and it slid in right beside instead of between the the metal pieces inside the surge protector so be careful when you plug it in.. luckily there was no other damage.
Now for what seems to be impossible… a replacement plug that fits inside the Marinco inlet on the outside of the bus… called Liberty after no luck locally and was told the original cord is factory moulded in one piece and there is NO exact replacement which blew my mind… however Jeff at Liberty said they do use one from Lowes….item # 4506 that will fit… so off to Lowes to get it and bring it home to find that it does NOT fit…. almost but NOT !!! Liberty said the only other option was from Hubell and it was a straight plug…. not angled so you couldn’t close the cover on the power posts when hooked up… that doesn’t sound good to me at all.
I can’t believe anyone would use something that can’t be replaced easily when it comes to the power source. I am very irritated over this finding and am hoping that someone out there knows of another replacement that will work. The openning on the Marinco fitting is very small for a 50 Amp plug that’s for sure.
My other option is to buy a nice deck plate like in the Vantare and cut a hole in the floor of that compartment and exit the cord through the bottom of the coach which in my opinion looks a lot nicer than sticking out the side anyway??

You posted the thread as “closed” so no one could reply, but I fixed it for you. You can get a manual cord temporarily, it’s marine 3 twist lock on one end and 50 amp on the other. I have one that’s 15′ and used it all the time on my Liberty instead of using the reel cord.

Had a problem with the same plug. Previous owner had done something to get it hot. West Marine has these replacement plugs. In my case, West Marine in Morehead City actually did the remove and replace at no cost. The plug itself was in the $1000 range. I did have to buy that. So if you have a West Marine nearby you might give them a call to discuss.

I do have the extra power cord and plugged it in on the other side thank goodness.
Jeff emailed me about a possible plug and I will check that out tomorrow.
Why did you not use your cord reel Tom?

Are you talking about a female end… I am talking about a male plug that plugs into a Shore Power Post but it reels into the side of the coach into a Marinco receptical that has a screw cap like most coaches have but this is just the openning for the tube where it reels in electrically…the plug has to fit inside the closed receptical which is small… not sure we’re talking about the same thing are we?

If you would post pictures and dimensions of the cable port it would help viewers know what you have.
Please post the plug that Jeff recommended, secrets do not help PC!

Sorry if I offended you… I gave ALL the info I had at the time of my post and please be assured that no one is trying to keep secrets from anyone !!
The plug Jeff thought might work he called “coast” … I haven’t been able to find it yet but will try again.
Ihave never been able to post pictures on here but I think it may be fixed now where I can, so I will try.
OK it worked the top pic is the exterior picture where the power cord leaves the coach, the bottom picture is inside the door where the cord reels into the coach…. inlet inside dimension is just shy of 3″ round.

I’m just free thinking here. It appears you need a 90 degree replacement plug that fits into the hole in the side of the coach. You also need a means of automatically shutting off power to the cord reel as the plug enters the hole.
My starting point would be to get a plug that is sized to fit in the opening. Then I would see if a sleeve or collar could be applied down from the plug to open the circuit to the power cord motor. I cannot remember how my set up worked on the previous coach, but suspect a collar trips a micro-switch. I think someone just has to get creative.
A power cord is expensive and it seems there is an alternative to having to buy one just because the plug has failed.

I’m told Glendinning will replace the end for you, but you’ll have to send the cable back to them.

Why would it not be possible to just buy the replacement end?
If the cable is about 70 feet long it is going to weigh a whole lot and shipping is going to be a problem if it exceeds the weight UPS accepts.

The collar is intact and works flawlessly…. my problem is finding an angled 50Amp plug that fits in the Marinco inlet. I have 4 different ones and none of them fit.
The one Liberty said would fit is 1/8th of an inch too big … dang blades are 1/8th” too long to clear the opening.
Removing the power cord and sending it back to the factory is NOT going to happen… would have to take half the bay out to get to it and as you mentioned the size and weight of it is another issue.
I guess I will keep looking for a smaller plug end… I am struggling with the fact that Liberty would use something that can’t be easily replaced when it comes to the bus power. UGH !!
Maybe someone has been there and done that ?

the Glendening plug is moulded and can only be done at the factory,the Hubbel plug has much better contact surfaces but the angled one is larger.I think that the solution is a new hole under the cord reel.

I’m almost sure I’ve seen a plug that should work, I’ve had the same problem but my cord goes in behind the rear wheels so the big plug doesn’t stick out the side. I’m not sure where I saw the plug but there is one out there. Because of the small size putting it together will be rather hard but I think it could be done. Il keep looking and let you know if I find it.
