Battery Charger – What to buy?
Hello from Northern Virginia
My wife and I are full timing in our 98 Country Coach XL. As we have transitioned into fall, I am thinking more about sustaining the battery life of my bus batteries. The coach we purchased does not have a charger on it. We have the Vanner 60-100 equalizer and the vanner monitor. The bus is in great shape, starts when needed and is keeping us happy. I start the bus up evry 3 weeks and let her run for about 30 minutes to get temps up and fluids circulating. I take the bus up on base and drive for a few miles to let her warm up and roll. So far, things are well.I’d like to keep it that way, espicially if I need to “bug out” of the NCR or just need to move sites. With winter soon to arrive, it will be imperative to be able to start the bus. I don’t want to be caught flat footed.
I’d like to get a marine grade battery charger witht the 3 phase system. Something that automatically switches to float voltage after minimal load to protect batteries from overcharging.I have looked at the ProNautic 24V battery charger online and I am leaning that way but it is very pricey. $741
My questions to the forum are:
a) What are your folks running for chargers? especially the CC owners?
b) Placement? should I mount it on the forward bulkhead by the vanner equalizer or on the Plywood above the battery bank?
c) Wiring, should I wire it to the equalizer or directly to the batteries?
d) Where is the AC power going to come from? I’m a Newbie and still learning this thing.
Thanks to everyone on the forum. I have learned a lot and will continue to do so as long as you folks keep sharing 🙂
