I was checking out my batteries. When I finished, I closed the battery drawer and started the coach. After doing so, I decided (thank God) to re-open the battery drawer. When I opened the drawer this time, the 12 volt cable was on fire. I was able to put the fire out easily, but if I had not checked, I’d have lost this coach.
The half tap (12 VDC) cable had been rubbing the
frame for who knows how long – the coach was new to me at the time – and there was a hole burnt through the steel frame at the back of the multiple battery drawer.
Turns out that the PO had connected the half-tap wire to come off the terminal toward the frame, rather than to loop around into the cable tray. Could have cost me the coach.
