If you buy a new one, I highly recommend you avoid Samsung.

To specifically address the last paragraph my reasoning is as follows.

First, understand I am ultra-conservative with respect to house batteries so if there is any possibility, no matter how remote that I will do a deep discharge on the house batteries, regardless of type, and now regardless of temperature, I am going to insure they are being charged. I run my generator a lot and my inverters as mentioned in the article are set to charge at 30 amps (60 total) which is way below the allowable charge rate at 32 degrees.

But in addition with the battery compartment heating system working, even if I lose my mind and start the coach, and charging from the alternator, my batteries are going to be warm.

I have to have turned off power to the compartment heat and I have to ignore the cold temps and I have to have the generator or shore power off so I am dumb enough to start the coach in the cold. If I don’t change my habits of 30 years the first thing I do after a night with batteries being drawn down by the lights, refrigerator, water pump, aux compressor, etc. is start the generator and then we make coffee, I get on the computer, usually have all the lights on, etc. but I just figure with the batteries being drained all night, regardless of how much charge remains, I am recharging them. I am not someone who opts to wait for auto-start. If I did start to use auto-start I would definitely make sure charging current settings were so low cold batteries could handle it.

I think I can count on my fingers the number of times I got up in the morning and started the coach, without having first started the generator.
