  • Zip Dee air Awning question

Posted by Ann on June 12, 2017 at 6:55 pm

I am wondering if the ZIP Dee air awning needs air pressure on the system to stay in the closed rolled up position. I know it used air to open and then close, but once closed, does it need pressure on the system to stay closed.

I am thinking about putting a switch on the 12V line that runs the compressor for the awning and turning it off when we have no plans on using the awning any time soon.

Andre, the motor keeps the awning closed, air pressure is only used to extend the arms when going out in conjuntion with the neaumatic cylinders that are attached to the two arms that extend out when opening.

You should have a relay that is inoperative when the ignition is on or the engine is running.

Mine works that way, whenever power is on wtih the ignition key the awning will not work.

The motor rolls it up and holds in place Andre, the air is used to push it off the coach to lower. That’s what I remember from mine, if that’s not correct, someone will no doubt rip me a new one. You don’t need air to lower it, if you use the manual motor button and pull the awning away from the coach, the motor will lower it. You should be doing that often, lowering past 90 degrees to remove the end caps and let the water run out. Water in the arms is what kills the arms.

    Tom and Buddy,

Thanks, I get it now. Tom did show me how to lower the arms with the motor only. I guess I just needed a memory jog to get past my CRS.

Like they said, it stays in without air. I cannot remember exactly what fuse it is but in your computer/electronic bay there is the fuse that controls the compressor. Troy at Liberty showed me which one it is and said just take it out if you dont use your awning very often. Id have to look in the book to see what number it is.

We just about never use ours and all I end up doing is draining the tank b/c of the moisture build up all the time.

some Liberty coaches have a switch in the inverter bay on the back wall for the awning compressor.
