  • You, Tequila, and Bus Boards make me crazy.

    Mega Bus

Entering my third week of self-imposed exile from bus boards, and I have to admit, “I am feeling a sense of accomplishment, relief, and very little anxiety.”

Really not used to this much tranquility in my life, it has taken some effort on my part to release myself from this unnecessary burden. Recently having dropped all the bus board related chains in life that bind me. I now find I have been released from the constant need to win bus peer member approval. And more importantly, freedom from the obsessive and relentless need to end each subject on a negative note.

One good thing, the last word on any subject will always belong to someone else, no need here to be a right fighter on my slow journey down life’s path.

That is how it is today, when you wake up and find yourself suddenly sober. You realize what you should have known all along. People don’t give a snap anymore and friendship, true friendship in life, is just a worn out cliche. Perhaps it is a good thing, to find this out early, before you invest too much sweat equity in a horse that is never going to win the race.

    Mont Rolling hills

So quietly I sit and stare out the window and sip on my coffee.

Where are the moments that take my breath away, the bend in the road, that turns out to reveal a million dollar view? We come on here (or other places on the net), log onto the Bus Boards and feed ourselves a steady diet of breakdowns, mechanical problems, issues with worn out and very used equipment.

And it enriches our lives how?
    That is the nagging question.

It is no small wonder some of us are the voice of discontent from time to time. You read all of this crap and then to top it off, you are forced to deal with unchecked ego’s and purveyors of half-truths almost on a daily basis. To tell you the truth, I often wonder if I should even venture out past the end of the driveway anymore.

But I do. And it is almost always the best thing to do*.

    * Please note that this post doesn’t concern PC it is directed towards other sites, this is just sharing the article with you. No reflection on PC was intended. This is an “adult board” and the folks who inhabit tend to act that way. Who knows, it might be my LAST WATERING HOLE left in the bus community, that is not populated by idiots, complete moron’s or wanna-be’s.

Might make it to the chicken coop in Needles, not much farther.

Have had several positive reports on the post, and that is always nice, appreciate it. Here is the best one so far:

    Email of the week:

Your humor was and is a shallow and typically not-too-bright reflection of a closet liberal/progressive. Your so-called humor has an ever-present destructive tone and over time will intensify to have meanness at its center. It is reflected in the myopic views of the Oklahoma Heartland in general and El Reno in particular – – where your self-importance is founded on the false premise that the world revolves around you.

What does this say about one who “likes” stupid crap like buses and bus meets?

Answer: Thank you so much Mom, that was elucidated to explain in detail. What time is supper on Sunday?

BCO is off and running. His twisted mind and humor creates some of the best posts.

(He paid me to say that)

Speaking of SPAM, I know Jon is bringing some to Jeff’s place for a PC cook out. I am sure he still has plenty left.

I will throw in the Beenie Weenies.

I like reading Boxcar’s posts and no one paid me to say that. However, I do have a question. Am I one of Boxcar’s wannabes since I drive and live in a Monaco? Before you answer I would like to point out that my Monaco has the same engine and transmission as many Prevost’s, 10 air bagsbags, and more slides than Jon and Tom combined.

Yeah but….it’s still a Monaco, not a cut by any means, we had our share of plastic ! When you get your Prevo all will become apparent. Geo.

I agree with Cory & George… just wait ’til you own a Prevost !!

Our Rving background comes from3 Bluebirds, 2 Newells and 2 Holiday Rambler Navigators… our last Navigator being 4 slides Series 60… 10 air bags and more bells and whistles than you can imagine… sorry not even close to a Prevost… still a nice coach though….please don’t get me wrong… it’s just not a Prevost… the quality just isn’t there no matter how hard you look.. and 2 of the 4 slides are so shallow they are hardly worth having. The slides in the Prevost seem bigger and when we measured the difference inside the Navigator to the 2 slide Prevost we lost 10″ floor place (which is quite a lot inside a bus) but no where near worth it.

I am glad you love your Monaco… but it isn’t Prevost class they are just different animals as you will see.

    Cheers, Diane

Mike, see what happens when you try to compare your coach to a Prevost………

This is a tough crowd with strong opinions about their coaches. From my extremely limited experience with a motorhome (a high end brand I will not name) all I can say is there is no comparison when it comes to driving. That is not surprising because the basis for our conversions is a chassis built for commercial service robust enough to deliver a million miles of service or more. It is more than an engine, air bags or slides, but is a highly refined assembly of structure and systems that when properly maintained is a true joy to drive and use.

Now was it the red was hot, and the black was ground, what is this white one for .... Nuts.
Now was it the red was hot, and the black was ground, what is this white one for. Nuts.

My inverter has lunched out, will no longer charge the batteries when you are sucking off the pole in the campground. Everything else works just fine, so here is the dilemma. “Do I buy a new inverter, which they are very proud of (expensive) at the auto supply, Ebay or Amazon.Com. Or do I just swing by the NAPA Jobber and pick up a inexpensive battery charger and save some big bucks?”

I am conflicted on this, please do not confuse it with that other thing, where you suddenly discover that you are all blocked up and cranky (constipated), this is different. Be right back, I just had one of them epiphany things about poop shooters, toilet paper and speed brakes. I have to write this down for a future article.

Okay, where were we? Oh yeah, suckin off the pole, sweating profusely and nothing that resembles refrigerated air or cold headed my way.

With no inverter, this in turn leads to other problems. Having no working AC and high humidity and big numbers, we decided to pull up stakes and make the four hour drive home early. Here is the good news, called KOA this morning, informed them of my circumstance and they cheerfully refunded the remaining day and did not charge me for it.

Now recently I asked and received a refund on a shut down bus meet (sky got cloudy and it appeared it was going to rain). I was given all of it back, except a small portion that was held out for “cancellation fees” as I was told.

So yesterday, during some of my rat killing I called the lady up in the Show Me State and asked her about it. She told me that “I was never signed up and had not been given a space, and that she had not charged me anything.” She also told me that “if the bus meet had actually happened and then was cancelled, I would have to forfeit on that, but she said that did not occur, and it was moved forward to later on in the year (when the weather is better I suppose) and the lady said that the promoter had not actually put up any funds at that time. Which makes me wonder, why am I being docked funds for cancellation fee’s on things that did not happen?

Shades of Twilight Zone. Kind of sad, so small and petty to get into a guys’ pocket just because you can. Gouge a guy because you are angry or mad at life.

So, like I said, it has been one of those days, a couple of weeks of them, but it makes life interesting, I am sitting on pins and needles this morning as I drink my second cup of Joe. Wondering what is coming next?

Maybe I will just slink out to the shop, crawl under something, lay on the cool concrete and let it speak to me. Yeah, that might work. A million miles Jon? Wow, that is incredible, I am thinking if I can make it to Gary, Indiana all in one piece, from our little Goat Farm just off the Interstate in Oklahoma, then it has been a good ten years.

    Okie,

Just a couple of questions and observations………..

On shore or generator power the AC units should have nothing to do with the inverter. Unless your coach has been set up to run AC units through the inverter when driving. Is that how it is set up?

If the inverter works on generator power, but not shore, I don’t think the problem is inverter related unless there is some information missing.

    Are you testing us?

I know this lady in the “show me state” She also works at a bank where my money is kept.

It all started when I asked why I’am getting charged a $30 service charge on a checking account which was for seniors with not much money.

If I’am charged this fee then what is it for, I asked. Does it give me anything in return ? Well, sir we send you a printed statement each month, and you can call the bank anytime with questions. So how much is the printed statement worth ? If I ask no questions do I get credit for that ?

Sir, we have another senior account that has no fees and you will still receive a printed statement. Why was I on the an account costing $30 per month when most seniors would have preferred a no cost account ?

Her answer was you have to call to change to the senior no charge account.

I think I understand BCO…this is how you make money when nothing happens.
