Yikes -lost jake brake coming down Siskiyous pass
I noticed the coach not slowing down as usual using the jake brake and got the front brakes pretty hot despite being in a low gear. Made it down slowly but could smell the front brakes a few times. Now in Corning, CA.
I’m trying to trouble shoot the problem before I go over another pass. I have the jake switch on but the jake is not engaging. No error messages or lights. Engine is running fine so I don’t think it is a mechanical problem.
Looked for some breakers or relays that operate the jake but could not find any in the electrical compartment below the driver or in the rear above the engine. The jake brake is not mentioned on the schematic on the engine door or below the driver.
Any idea what to look for? I imagine the DDEC operates the jake based on the switch position. How does it do it? Is there a solenoid that engages the jake?
I’d appreciate any help/pointers
Thanks,
Gerald
