XM radio antenna
Posted by John on February 23, 2015 at 6:57 pmAny suggestions on the make and model of an XM radio antenna for the bus. What is the best place to mount the antenna? The dash mounted unit that I am currently using is limited in its ability to “see” the satellites.

“Up there” the antenna would have unobstructed views of the skies and satellites.
I am assuming that you would have to buy a new antenna. They do typically run about $30 on eBay and they come with plenty of cable to run from the roof down a pillar to your radio module.
Cheers,

John,
I recently had Jeff install a Pioneer AVIC-8000 NEX which has XM/Serius satelitte connectivity. I decided against getting satellite but did work with a local CJDR dealer’s parts manager to find an acceptable antenna. The one I am using is from a Dodge Dart with a cable from a Dodge Durango for length (13′). I also needed to get from Best Buy a cable that converts the Durango plug to a standard cylindrical male plug to connect to the radio.
The install is complete but I have not heard the sounds since I have yet to pick up the coach from Jeff’s place. No fault on Jeff’s part but a new recliner was delivered with fabric damage and has yet to be returned to Jeff after repairs. Now this infernal weather pattern is adding to the delays. The plan was to have the recliner return shipped either Wednesday or Thursday last week. Didn’t happen. I just hope it was not in a trailer involved in one of those mega wrecks in Indiana, Kentucky, or Tennessee. Maybe it will arrive today and then all I have to worry about is the weather forecast, which does not look promising for the end of this week either.

Thanks for the input. I understand that the top of the bus is the best place. I was hoping to get a specific location in order to avoid exploratory surgery on the interior in order to find a good spot. I recall seeing a “truck mirror style” antenna mount on the side of the front cap. It did not seem like a great solution.

Anywhere on top of the front cap convinient to where you want to run the wire down. Geo.
