  • XLV or XLII

Posted by Jim on August 12, 2013 at 7:01 am

I see some coaches which are advertised as XLV and some that look the same but are XLII and still others that are LeMirage? Are they different and if so what makes them different?

Originally all conversions we XL also known as Le Mirage. The XL was undoubtedly to denote the 40 foot length.

Then along came the H3. That was followed by the XLV which was an XL with 5 more feet of length. The H3 became an H3-45 when it grew from its original 40 or 41 feet.

The XL and the XLV were coaches with riveted side panels.

The XLII was a 2000 model year chassis that was an upgraded XL or XLV. The side panels were bonded in place, the windows were flush, the windshields were tall and there were many other changes to the XL coaches making the XLII a substantially different coach.

If you look at an XL or XLV compared to the XLII you will see many changes externally and not visible ary many more changes to improve the XL from which it evolved.

Larger windshields, flush side glass, larger side windows, toll windows for driver and passenger doors, fold up rear fenders, improved fuel filling, revised rear doors, revised front and rear caps, revised dash, LED lights, etc.

    Thanks Jon,

So if someone is advertising a 2008 coach, XLV, have they mislabeled what it is? Should it be an XLII?

They are probably trying to denote that it is 45 feet long. A 2008 is a XLII and the visual differences are easy to see.

    I just upgraded from a 1997 XLV to a 2004 XLII

Here’s a photo of the two coaches side-by side.
