XLII or H3-45 Insight/Advice/Opinions Appreciated
Hello,
I am going to buy a Prevost coach within the next 6 months and I would appreciate any Insight/Advise or Opinions on this subject to assist me with my decision to purchase.
For background, I am looking at buying a 2001 – 2006 Prevost and I am split on whether to buy an XLII or a H3-45. I actually like the looks of both models, but can’t decide if one is a better choice over the other.
I know that some of the XLII have had the de-lamination problem.
Have the H3 models had any similar issues?
Are there any unique issues with the H4?
What is the difference in ride and handling between the two?
Why did Prevost stop making the XLII?

Joe, The two share the same chassis so there is no difference in ride or handling. The H may seem a bit different from the driver’s seat, but only because you sit lower and it is taller above your head. There is nothing to de-lam on an H. They stopped making the XL11 because there was little demand from the converters after a certain point and needed just the longer wheelbase X3 for the entertainers. The biggest differences between the H and XL are the interior ceiling height (less in the H), the seating relationship of the driver to the passenger, and the much taller bays on the H. One advantage of the H is the flat floor thru to the rear. Top end work on the engine can be done without taking the bedroom apart or sliding out the engine. An advantage to the XL is that the overall height is almost a foot less and it is quieter in the cockpit than an H. We have had both, and although I dislike the noisier cockpit of the H, I would not want to be without the taller bays of the H. So, other than the de-lam issue with some XL’s it really is just personal preference. Sit in and drive both. One more thing which you may have noticed already is that bus to bus the XL’s are usually priced less than a comparable H. Geo

Interesting perspective George.
Every H i drove in the mountains in a big wind was top heavy compared to and XL. Higher platform, makes sense why.
Prevost quit the XLII because it wanted 2 chassis not 3 to mfg. The largest buyer were entertainers on the X3 chassis.
George comes out about 5’4”. In a H it don’t matter. I get in an H and feel claustrophobic.The extra step up to get on the main floor is not for us and the uneven passenger seat or (birdcage seat) is for a tour guide.
You will get strong feelings on both. Like George said you gotta get in them.
