  • XL40 Windshield washer fuse?

    We have a 1992 Liberty XL40 and the windshield washer is in the turn signal / wiper stem I asume There is no mention of it in my manual. The washer pump does not run and I found there is no power going to it. Does anyone know if there is a fuse or breaker for the washer pump. My schematic only shows a breaker for the wiper.

    I will look on mine , mine is 1997 I think it’s the same mine is on signal stem too motor is in steering bay. One time I had washers working ten minutes later no juice coming out passenger side hose came off under dash on passenger side had to take dash apart to fix not that big of job , it was shooting out under dash !!!!! Old hoses came off cut some off all well now…….

    Still can not find the source of power to the windshield washer. Tried to pull info on the technical manual site but no luck. Wipers work fine,,,,, just no washer. Motor wires never power up. I assume the washer is suppose to run when the turn signal stem wiper switch is turned counter clockwise, the wiper makes several wipes but no power to the washer motor. Clockwise runs the wipers on all speeds.

    You push in on the stalk for the washers. Just like the ICC button on the end of the stalk, but the whole stalk pushes in.

    Education is a great thing,,,,, We have owned this coach almost 6 years and did not know the end of the stalk pushed in like that. My manual shows a switch on the dash.

    I have found that a significant number of Prevost owners don’t know what they don’t know. I am not being critical or a smart aleck when I say that. Anyone who has read the posts for any length of time quickly learns that between the complexities of the conversion and the chassis it is almost impossible to understand everything.

    When Tom and I discuss the content of seminars we are guided by the posts on the forum and the questions asked. If a topic shows up as one that appears to attract a lot of interest and we see it is one that will benefit a number of owners we try to get it on the agenda.

    We can address Prevost topics fairly easy because we all have that in common, we can often get Prevost experts to assist us with their excellent seminars, and we have a lot of access to resources on the Prevost web site. What we cannot do a good job of doing however is provide converter specific information without the help of those with experience and knowledge relating to a specific converter. The only way we might be able to get the experts, which are people from the converter is to increase the attendance at our rallies so we can either create converter specific seminars or the converters can interact with owners of specific conversions.

    Right now we are attempting to develop the seminar programs for the Lazy Days Spring Break Rally as well as our fall rally in October. So my question is what seminars would you all like? We have limitations so keep that in mind. Also, apart from the seminars I would like all who plan to attend rallies to understand that interacting with other owners is often going to yield as much information as our seminars because a new owner might be able to hook up with a more experienced owner with the same conversion to learn converter specific information. Everyone at rallies becomes a source of information so posting your wishes here regarding our seminar subject content could also alert someone with answers of your need.

    This post is going to be duplicated in the Rallies section and it would be easy for all if the responses are posted there.

    No problem Robert, I too didn’t know how to get the washers to work back when, so we all learn.

    I really like this site,,,, we started out in the Bus Conversion site and did an Eagle 05 raising the roof and smooth skin, water, electric supplies and grey and black dumps on both sides of the coach. It was a nice family project and turned out well. After our son was old enough he took over the Eagle and we bought this Liberty Prevost.

    We were members in POG for a couple of years and enjoyed that group as well, but there seems to be more of a mix of vintage and newer coaches here. Not sure if that is because of the lack of dues but I like the mix.

    Yes, I would say there has been more interaction on this site and we are definately better off for it.

    Looking forward to the Lazy Days rally as it is only 5 miles from our home. I would like some straight non bias answers on fuel contamination, not only the fancy prevention additives but maybe some other remedies as well. I read pros and cons of using isopropal alcohol. The additive manufacturers say alcohol is bad, the fuel suppliers up North say they automatically add alcohol to the fuel in winter.

    Anyway, thanks for the info so far, really enjoyed the articles also.

    Thanks for the kind words about the site. As to fuel contamination the obvious answer is to run the coach a lot and the problem will not occur. But since that is sometimes not realistic keeping the tank full when the coach is stored is what aviators do to minimize condensation issues in a fuel tank which leads to the formation of algae.

    I have no idea how to get accurate information about how to prevent it, or how to deal with it once it becomes a problem other than spending some time on the internet sorting out manufacturer puff pieces, old wive’s tales, and accurate information. A few years ago after a summer of storage I began using our coach and saw evidence in the sediment bowl on my Racor fuel filter that I had something going on with my fuel. Since I had some upcoming travel I cleaned the bowl, changed the filter and I started driving it, closely monitoring the sediment bowl. Every time I saw anything in the bowl, I cleaned it out and changed the filter. With each succeeding tank full of fuel the amount that collected on the filter and in the sediment bowl diminished to the point that the problem went away. I didn’t add anything for fear of killing or loosening up all of what I think was algae and plugging my filters quickly.

    My point is that worked for me. Others posted other solutions that worked for them with there being no concensus on how to deal with it.

    Lack of usage in our case is probably the cause even though the coach is always in an enclosed barn we are only putting a thousand or so miles a year. We hope to start using it almost full time starting in about 6 months. That is one of the reasons I have posted so many issues lately,,,, trying to get all the little issues out of the way knowing there will be more to come as we use it. I use to keep the tanks full but lately it stays 1/4 to 1/2 until we use it again.

    I think I am going to take your approach and hope it clears out. If the bowl gets dirty too fast I will have to check into polishing the fuel.

    One of the problems with storing anything with less than full tanks is that as the temperatures change up an down the tank breathes, exhausting air as the fuel expands, and inhaling air as the fuel cools. Air being drawn into the tank can be humid, and that moisture condenses out as the air and tank contents continue to cool. Less head room over the fuel means less air is being exchanged as the normal warming and cooling occurs.

    If the issue is serious fuel polishing is probably a very good proactive approach rather than seeing if the problem can be driven away.
