XL Single pane windows
Single pane windows in My XL sure do let a loot of heat in when parked in direct sunlight.The cruise airs will keep it cool enough but seems to work them pretty hard to do so. A while back I was looking over Don’s ( AKA Lonestarace) ad where he has his XL for sale. He has insulated window panels listed or Something of that nature. I asked him about them, And he told me that he got some insulation from home depot and cut panels. I had also seen some youtube videos where people will take clear bubble wrap creating a barrier against the elements. So I have a good supply of this bubble wrap roll insulation left over from building my bus barn. This is what they used underneath the metal roof. I very seldom raise the day/night shades all the way up. So I cut panels to go in the upper part of all the windows that open. Placing 2 panels cut to fit , and a third one slightly larger that pushes into the corner and is stiff enough to stay in place. With the foil side out of course. The other side is a smooth white faces the interior. I am thinking about making some panels for the lower windows that open. That i can put in and take out as needed. The large windows that do not open I placed 3 panels each the same way. And will leave those day/night shades lowered. Easy to put in and take out and roll up and store if I am set up in a site where i like the view on one side. My cruise air’s have already thanked Me. They do not have to run wide open in the mid day sun. My IR temp gun readings are 7-10 degrees cooler on a window with a panel. Now I have to do something to the black windshield shades !

Huh! Great idea. We have windows on the driver’s side of our bedroom that are covered on the inside with upholstery, held in I think with velcro. I knew the upholstery gets hot when the sun is on that side. I think I’ll use this idea to insulate those windows. I suppose the shiny silver will show through the windows though.
I like the idea of having “white” window shades to cut down on heat gain, but like the “look” of the black ones.

We have the same stuff sewn in between vinyl that matches our interior color. They are fitted to each window and are stiff enough to stay upright on the window ledge without Velcro or suction cups. They make a big difference in both heating and cooling.

Rocky, use the stuff for the windshields and ds-side windows and maybe you won’t need to re-do the blinds? 5 mins in or out. Stores under the bed.

In the living area I have made the thermal inserts so as to fit snuggly in the upper half of the windows. I never take them out but I can, quickly and easily. The inserts are not visable from outside.
All the side windows of our bus are tinted dark. The tinting is in the glass and not a film. It doesn’t hinder the view when looking out from inside and you can’t see inside when outside looking in during the day. But at night you can see in so the blinds need to come the rest of the way down for privacy.

We used the same stuff in our last coach, so one of the first things I did was to cut sections for each window in the coach. The bedroom ones stay in pretty much all the time. It makes a lot of difference in the heat. Las Vegas at 120 degrees is no sweat!

Dick, when I first looked at our bus, it had upholstery and mirrors totally covering the headboard end windows(I think it’s a Liberty thing?). We like looking out windows, the more windows the better, so when we bought the bus we had them remove the headboard end mirrors and match the upholstery and blinds w/the opposite side. So now we have 4 usable windows in the bedroom. I made inserts that cover 100%, of the glass in all 4 windows. Again they pop in and out real easy like.
Per, we leave our bdrm ones in most of the time too.

I like the idea of exposing the bedroom headboard windows. That way You can have a good breeze in spring or fall. My coach has an etched island scene that has backlighting. That looks too good to remove.Like Don said on the inserts. They are very hard to see from the outside.
