WTB 97/98/99/00 XL
Posted by Clint on July 15, 2021 at 11:58 amSeriously looking for a 97/98/99/00 XL. I’m new to the Prevost world and have missed out on a few while trying to get the lay of the land the past month or so. Most notable was John’s old 97 Liberty by a mere few minutes. That really stung.
Must haves:
- Private toilet room
- Roof-tops if no OTR
Converter preferences:
Liberty/Marathon/CC/Royale/Vantare
Not interested in projects, looking for a ‘top shelf’ example and willing to pay accordingly. No contingencies to immediate purchase.
If you or someone you know is looking to sale their ‘pride and joy’ but don’t want to see it turn into a road dog, know it will be in good hands. As have all of my prior buses, it will be lightly enjoyed but also doted on, residing in a nice garage right around the corner from ETLC in Lenior City. My wife and I are excellent maintainers of ‘stuff’, that’s what we do.

Bump
Not much on the market right now, have found a few walk-thru baths available. Have never had a walk-thru, my perception is that the bulk of the buyers looking don’t want a walk-thru and thus resale would be extremely difficult.

Walk thru bath becomes private when doors are closed. And much roomier than “private” toilet. My observation anyway.

So ….there is a 2000 Marathon on Prevost Stuff Website…..
https://www.prevost-stuff.com/2000PrevostMarathonXL_Bruce050721.html
The seller is Bruce at AutoNetwork in Bend, Oregon……..I bought my Marathon coach #632 from him. My coach was wholesale’d to him by Marathon ….I suspect this coach was as well. This listed price is pricey …. considering this is coach #599 and I paid way south of that in 2018 for #632. He is a good guy to do business with …..don’t be afraid to make an offer.
I had Coachworks, TEC Equipment, and FreightLiner all in Eugene,OR go through and inspect the bus on a pre-buy. It’s the bus side of the coach you should but the money into. After purchase and inspections…..I made a deal with TEC Equipment on labor rate and got a very road worthy coach.
If the interior is in good shape like mine was all the do dad’s can be worked on later. TEC has two Prevost mechanics in Eugene as they do a lot of work for Marathon which is right next door on their fence line.
Coachworks can save you some money of interior stuff. Here is the real key to a older Marathon and is hidden from view. The Techon Cabin Management in a Marathon is it’s heart. It is a robust system …. however it can loose it’s mind. It requires a reset on a 20 year old coach to go another 10 years. The Marathon has two boards which are the brains ..one is the waterbay board and the other is the generator board. These boards control everything that Marathon installed electrically. The folks at EDSI who designed the system for Marathon and still support it … will send you their trouble shooting laptop. They can review the system for errors and help you correct them.

I have friend that Dad passed away ready to sell Tex me If interested 580 695 7043 I work at night will answer 12 noon to 5 .thanks I am very familiar with Coach thanks

@Billy … yep, aware of how things close off. All of my prior buses have had private water closets, even the 77. Seems like a step back, but maybe that perception changes after owning one.
I think it’s totally a preference deal, both are good designs, just depends on what you want.

Clint Good morning, I noticed your post I would suggest you call Ernie Eckburg before you buy any thing. Ernie have first hand knowledge of Blue
and others you maybe looking for. Good luck

Our ’88 coach had an open bath and toilet. Our new coach has the toilet only in a small room (closet!) and I hated it. Felt like I was in a coffin with the door closed. Just too small to be comfortable. We had the door to the room removed and now we have the best of both Worlds with a semi-private toilet and no claustrophobia!

I guess it’s a personal choice, Our last coach was a U320 Foretravel with an open toilet and me and my wife always said we fell a little exposed, This rig closed bath we like it much better.

East Tennessee Luxury Coach has a 97 Liberty and a 99 Liberty for sale. call them for a walk through. Even if you don’t buy them its always nice to get a better idea of what your wanting or what your preferences are before spending money

Clint, let me know if you need to experience one, you’re welcome to visit my 97 XL40 Liberty at Lake Greenwood SC or this weekend in Marion NC. Otherwise I think you might go look at the ones at Jeff’s.
Best

Thanks guys for the feedback. @Chip, yeah … next time I’m at my TN place I’m gonna drop by Jeff’s place. In fact I was tooling around Vonore in my FC a couple of weeks ago and almost dropped by ETLC, but my wife stopped me, said our vintage all american steel rig might intimidate the shiny buses.

I have been in and around the Vogue just east of Lawton, Ok. It has been sitting so long there was a hornets nest on the entry awning. I think the owners daughter said they wanted 130 for it. It will need the obvious- batteries, tires, oil change and wasp spray.

Clint, you have a heavy duty job. The only thing you can do, and likely are doing is to daily look at all the sites likely to list Prevost for sale.
You have to be spring loaded to see one, and recognize that a well cared for Prevost with a fully documented history is a rare coach and it will be off the market quickly.
I would be surprised if some of the great coaches never even get listed so keep posting, and try to spread word of mouth. I would also try to make every seller of coaches, ranging from converters to brokers to shops who service them aware you want to buy one, and if a dealer doesn’t want a trade in because of age or other reason let them know you are willing to step in and pay more than a wholesaler will. A lot of the dealers work with converters to bid on trades the converters do not want to resell.
