Work/Service that can only be done at Prevost
Hi, I’m looking into what kinds of service is it necessary to bring to Prevost for, versus another coach shop, like ETLC? I.e. what can Prevost do that ETLC can’t (especially in regards to a PDI, for example – what was the recommendation to go to a Prevost center for specifically)? As per Jon’s Prevost Nashville document, some service centers do different things as well, correct (and do better in some areas than other too)? I realize Jeff and Josh are on here too, and can elaborate as well, please, if you wish.

I do all my work regardless of what it is, my understanding is Prevost won’t touch any converter specific issue. While Other shops like the one you mentioned might handle the chassis and conversion issues.

Quality of work and a Prevost facility is no better or worse than the person doing it. Just because they are wearing a Prevost shirt does not mean they have years of Prevost experience. They may have been working on Mack trucks last week.
Now, Prevost service facilities do have some good specialized equipment for some operations, but it all still depends on the person doing it.
A lot of private shops are as good or better then Prevost.
There are nightmare stories about Prevost as well as private facilities, as well as great ones.
Go where you have confidence.

The over riding factor in deciding where to take a bus for service is things of a proprietary nature. Chassis damage is a big one. If the coach is newer and has multiplex wiring Prevost is the place to be. If you have lots of money and want air leaks chased, Prevost is very familiar with the pneumatic system, although I see chasing leaks as something owners should do. Alignments are something that Prevost should do.
Everything else like engines, brakes, etc. any qualified shop can handle, in some cases better than Prevost.

After have Bus 4 Sale in Goodlettsville do some work on my front end they referred me to an alignment shop in Nashville. Both shops did excellent work and was over 1/2 the price Prevost would have charged. I have gotten excellent service from W.W Williams and Freightliner for engine A/C and even Webasto related issues. Of course, if I am going to be headed through Springfield, MO I try to stop at American Fleet for a check up or top end service.

How long would one expect a qualified shop take to do a full (chassis / non-house/converter) PDI of engine, trans, suspension, etc…

How high is up?
It is impossible to do a 100% comprehensive inspection unless there are detailed maintenance records available. A chassis inspection is a visual event. That means you cannot verify coolant maintenance, the absence of which can be engine cavitation. The inspector is guessing about the age of rubber dependent components like air bags or brake chambers and Norgren valves.
Another question is who is doing the inspection and how much influence is having a relatively young motor home chassis compared to the more common seated chassis he sees?
Even with a no holds barred chassis inspection the availability or lack of service history is going to be the key.
