We’re all hunkered down, bus full of fuel and water assuming we may be on the gen for days. At least it’s in the garage out of harms way. We live in Mount Olive an RV community in Polk City, just east of Lakeland, so being in the center of the state and 150′ in elevation, water isn’t our concern, but wind is. The entire community here has pitched in and made sure anyone not home has everything outside moved to an interior or covered space. There are quite a few folks here that lived at Mount Olive in 04 and saw 100 mph winds and had little damage. So we’re hoping for the best.

I’m sure you’re bus barn & house were built to code, with all those hurricane straps. We have a lot of experience using a palm nailer attaching those straps down there …

I think that’s why the hold up well Tim, I didn’t pay that much attention to all of that while I was building, but I’m sure glad the codes are so strict. All exterior walls are concrete block, so we shall see.
Had a friend leave Bradenton this morning with his fiberglass coach and called me while on I-75 around Ocala doing the speed limit, light traffic. A big change from the last 2 – 3 days when it was a parking lot.

Tom you and Nancy keep your heads down and be safe, I agree that the water shouldn’t be your problem, but the wind can do a number on things, hope it turns out ok.

We left ours at Marathon FL. about two weeks ago for some upgrades. Wish it were tucked safely in the bus barn here in north GA.

We are hunkered down here in Sarasota. Windows covered. Finished up by flashlight at 10pm yesterday. Wind is significant currently and dumping rain! Neighbor across the street is still attempting to put some plywood on his exposed windows. Will move to friends new, generated office/warehouse facility later today.

Hope You and Nancy are fareing well! Looks as though the eye of the storm was real close if not over Polk City. keep us posted. Winds at last check were still 40mph there.

Just our luck, the eye turns north hits us in Polk City dead center last night, gusts to 90 mph from about 12:30 to 2:00 am. We’re very fortunate, no house damage and one tree down in the common area behind the house. If you’ve never been in a 90 mph wind hoping your house holds up, be happy, scary stuff. I can’t imagine those poor folks in The Caribbean getting a direct hit at 175.
There’s damage in Mount Olive, mostly shingles, fences, home awnings, etc., but one bad new construction home on the ground. Powers been out since 8 pm last night.

Ive been driving around central florida the past couple weeks reviewing damages from Irma. If anyone is still dealing with cleanup where insurance isn’t helping out and needs help, try contacting crisiscleanup.org. They are a clearing house for faith/local/national organizations that provide volunteer cleanup help.
Insurance doesn’t help when it comes to trees down that didn’t land on a covered dwelling/structure. I know I have talked with a couple WWII vets that can’t get out there and cut trees up and move the debris and Insurance just doesn’t cover it as it didnt land on their house. I always recommend CrisisCleanup as I know they partner with Team Rubicon (vet based volunteer organization for cat response).
If you are able to help, hook up with some of the groups out there, neighbors really need the help. If I wasn’t working 7 days a week. 12+ hour days, I would be out with Team Rubicon (ye, im not a vet, but I appreciate what they do for vets and for people in need) helping people deal with what they can’t afford or do themselves.
