Winter Casualties
At the Bus Conversions Pahrump Rally I was chastised for being hesitant to attend because of the snow and ice factor in AZ (Flagstaff and surrounding areas). This time of the year, high elevation driving, can be hazardous to your health.
A few could not understand my reluctance to take the bus out at this time of the year and how it was I prefered to stay home. Here is a prime reason why you should not be out in the wintertime in a car or bus. A word of caution, this is pretty intense.

If it wasn’t for that fact that people were probibly hurt in this string of accidents, it would be funny. Why are all of thos idiots (mostly big trucks as I see it) in such a hurry with road conditions like they were. Great decision to stay off the roads when they are like that…

Because nobody had there radios on to hear what was happening not far from my ranch , if that happens , the people who stopped on road should have drove in ditch not stayed on road good way to get killed just staying on road !!!!

You are right, the only person I saw with any intelligence was the little camper Van in the ditch backing up, away from the upcoming carnage. That idiot driving that white car up between the two trucks must had have a single digit IQ.

I know things can be different in person and looking at an event ‘after the fact’, but why was the person filming not running over to the guardrail…. or driving maybe a mile down the road and waving and yelling about the pile-up?
I cringed seeing every truck driving into that mess.
I just can’t wrap my head around the truckers not having their CB’s on in a bad weather event. It doesn’t hurt to have it on and still using their cell phones, etc.
Very sad situation.

Everyone is in a hurry, everyone has come to believe the safety devices like ABS will let them overdrive their vehicle, nobody uses a CB anymore because it interferes with their use of the cell phone and texting, nobody thinks to adjust driving for stopping distances, and the world is full of morons that should not be on the road.
My concern immediately was the person taking the video was obviously on the opposite lane and therefore he and his vehicle could have been a factor in causing accidents on his side of the highway. You can bet his vehicle was not on the RH shoulder, safely out of the way. You can also bet that to traffic heading in his direction he was a distraction. Or maybe traffic in his direction was stopped and there was nothing he could do or needed to do to alter the situation on either side of the highway.
Did anyone notice the visibility was probably less than the stopping distance? Does anyone driving think that might be a clue that it is time to exit the highway and park for a while?
