Al, over the years on multiple sites there have been photos of buses (not RVs) that have had collisions, rolled or dropped from heights.
Without a doubt they all suffered serious damage, but what is almost universally consistent is the chassis structure remained intact. Obviously in front end collisions with anything such as a truck or bridge or tree the front occupants are injured or dead, but in any kind of roll over or upset the occupants get really banged up as they get tossed around, but the chassis structure is never ripped apart, torn off or collapsed.
If my coach gets airborne I am likely getting thrown around and injured. But I am likely not going to be crushed by the coach that is only a floor or flat bed chassis that has lost its upper structure. What happened to the Foretravel likely would have thrown our coaches around in much the same manner, but I am certain the “bird cage” that comprises the chassis is going to function like a car’s “roll bar” providing some protection.

MILLER, SD | A retired farmer was killed Sunday when a tornado blew a recreational vehicle off the highway near Miller in central South Dakota, the state Department of Public Safety said Monday.
Dean Paul Nelson, 73, was driving an RV with a car trailer southbound on South Dakota Highway 45 when the tornado struck around 6:15 p.m. Sunday, about 13 miles north of Miller. The tornado crossed the road east to west.
According to a news release, the tornado caused the RV and trailer to detach. The trailer flipped in the west ditch, destroying the trailer and tossing the car away. The RV came down on its roof 150 to 200 yards west of the road in a cornfield.

This was a Class 7 or 8 “truck conversion” pulling a large (three HD axles) race trailer. You’ll read that probably the driver shouldn’t have been driving. But nonetheless the deaths (5) and the injured (13) are overwhelming. If you go full screen on the video it become apparent the “house” was scraped off the deck/floor on the chassis of the truck.
Things happen pretty quickly … even at 63 or 64mph like I normally travel.

Jon, I think the force of 50lbs being tossed lets say 100 feet in the air then dropped on the roof would equal that of being hit head on . I do not think we survive . There is a link on line to that Tornado and man to watch that RV being blended like my morning smoothie was a site to behold .
I agree we would not be blown apart , more like crushed inside . No doubt we own the best and safest RV s on the road , but Mother Nature Rains Supreme I say , You don’t mess with her , that’s all . Prayers for the Family .

I’ve seen a couple of Prevost conversions after they’ve gone off-road. The structure itself does hold up quite well. the biggest problem is that appliances, cabinets, etc. ripped loose and caused injury.
I had two friends and a dog in a high end sticks and staples completely destroy it in a blowout multiple rollover in Texas at 80 mph (he hit the brakes). ALL THREE WALKED AWAY!
