  • Which position is “off” for manual level low?

    I’m having trouble figuring out which position is “off” on the three rocker switches for the Liberty Level-Low. See below.

    I tried scanning the page from Liberty manual that addresses this, but I think its too big to load. It doesn’t say which position of the “three” available on the rocker switches are which.

    I presume that the Left, Right, and Front switches are in the “DOWN” position.

    Is “UP” the middle position? and then “OFF” would be when the unlabeled portion of the three-position switch is pushed down all the way.

    or is “UP” selected when the unlabeled portion of the switch is fully down? If that is the case, “OFF” would be the middle position.

    Start the engine and air up the system in the “road/travel” mode by pushing the top of each switch down, opposite of what the picture shows.

    To “manually” adjust things(campsite,etc), put the right switch in the middle position, then moving any of the other switches to the intermediate or down position temporarily will move that part of the coach up or down(its a 3 point leveling system).

    For it to “automatically” level the coach move the right switch to the down position

    As shown, if you turn the key on and sufficient air pressure the coach will level itself. The fourth switch is in the automatic leveling position. In that position the three switches to the left are disabled.

    If you move the RH switch to the center position (press on the top one click) then the three left hand switches as show will release all the air in the air bags at all three positions. The only time the three left hand switches function is when the selector switch on the right is in the manual position. If you move each of the three LH switches to the center position the coach air bags at all 3 positions will inflate and raise the coach. If you press the top of the swithes down it stops inflation of the air bags as well as deflation. I am interpreting what is happening with the three switches based solely on how the lable reads.

    On my coaches the same three switches were “off” in the center position and the top made it go up, and the bottom made it go down. You can verify which is the “off” position by playing with them a little.

    When you put the RH switch into the road or driving position by pressing the top of that switch all the way down from the top it disables the three LH switches and the coach goes to the driving or road position which is controlled automatically via the ride height valves.

    FWIW different vintages of Liberty coaches had different swich positions to perform the functions. On my coaches the manual control switches used the center position as the “off” and the top for up and the bottom for down. The master control switch functions for road, manual, or automatic could be in that configuration, or manual, road, or automatic, or any other set of relative positions. All you have to remember is the manual switches do not function regardless of their position unless the master control switch is in the manual position.

    On my 98 Liberty, it’s all ‘up’ for road mode. Right switch down for auto level, and right switch center for manual level. When on the manual level mode, the three other switches are – down for down, center for up, and up for hold/off.

    I think with the Liberty controls, the consistency is in the fact 3 control the LH rear, RH rear or front, and the forth is the “master” that is set in the “road” position for driving, the “manual” position to enable the use of the three switches to manually adjust the coach height, or the “automatic” position to let the system level the coach automatically.

    The only important thing for an owner to understand is if the “level low” light is on (on the dash) the coach is not to be driven. Only when the master switch is in the “road” position will the warning light be out.

    None of my three coaches had the switches positioned the same and I think the relative position of the functions on each switch may have differed also (but I cannot remember for sure).

    Jon, when my buttons are in the position like the image above, it will not auto. I have to turn off the other three to make auto work, off being the blank side of the switch fully pushed toward earth. Don’t know if that is right or wrong, but I’m ok with it.

    Sounds like I need to fire the bus up and figure out what each button position (at least the left three) does and then placard the buttons. Apparently there were different wiring schemes over the years.

    Jon makes a good point. I do wish I could tell from the pilot’s seat when the coach if fully aired up and ready to go after switching from “AUTO” to “ROAD”. It seems like it sits down on the mud flaps for a long time after starting up and being switched to “ROAD”. Then suddenly its fully aired up and ready to go. I suppose some kind of indicator could be hooked up to the ride height mechanism with a gauge or readout on the dash. Mr. Mark … does your new coach have that kind of functionality?

    (There aren’t supposed to be any “dumb questions” on the PC Forum.) Does sitting in the driver’s seat have an impact on how quickly the coach airs up after switching to “ROAD”?

    As a general rule if my coach is sitting down low and it needs to have the air systems aired up I can generally tell when I am ready to drive. First with the air bags empty or at least so low on air pressure that the coach has not come to the driving height the aux air system and the air bags are going to build pressure almost at the same time.

    The reason is the ride height valves have opened the path to the air bags so to the aux system tank that seems like a big leak and the aux tank can’t build air with all 8 air bags also requiring air pressure. Almost always when my air dryer cycles all three air systems are fully pressurized and the coach is ready to drive because it is at ride height

    This will vary depending on how much axle weights you have but my rear air bags take somewhere around 70 to 80 PSI to come to the driving height. My steer axle air bags are at about 100 PSI when at the driving height. You can tell when the air bags are filled with the right air pressure because the aux gauge will move up slower as the air bags are filling, but when they fill the build of aux pressure seems a little faster.

    Without looking, when I hear the air dryer purge valve “POP OFF”, I know it’s at travel height. I always look it over anyway. After a while u develop calibrated eyeball.

    That works as long as the suspension system valves have not been damaged by moisture and they are fully opening.

    I thought all of you Liberty guy’s and gal’s had access to the Liberty Drone Support System (LDSS) for confusing issues such as this switching delima. Have the been grounded??

    I can say that after owning two Libertys, the suspension switch positions can become confusing.

    Everyon on the PC Forum can look forward to Tom commenting after buying his next Liberty whether the suspension switch positions on his next coach align with his first Liberty, his second Liberty, or are altogether different.
